1 Tiny Recorder Instrument

1 stop is the right amount for me.

You won't really understand how tiny this compact recorder is until you have it in your hands. I watched plenty of videos on this device and was still shocked when I first unboxed it. For the price, the build and sound quality are good. It's great for throwing into someone's pocket as the on/off/record switch is hard to accidentally slide. It takes effort to do it with intention actually.

First off, the recorder is TINY, about half the size of your traditional body pack. The safety track recording is a game changer, it gives you a lot of confidence to set it and forget it. Audio quality is very clean, low noise floor, but if you want A level audio buy a Countryman lav mic as well. I'm totally happy with this and will be using it for years to come.

When I received the Tascam's DR-10L, the first thing I noticed was its tiny size. This recorder is practically weightless, far smaller than most wireless body packs. My first fear was it would be too hard to operate the controls and to see the tiny menu. But Tascam did its homework. The menu, operating on a single line with clear terminology, is much better and more understandable than many of Tascam's larger record. A couple of things I like. When you know all your settings, you can make a text file and put it on microSDNC card. When the recorder is turned on, the file activates all your preferences. Another is the dual recording mode, which allows two separate files to be recorded simultaneously at different levels. If the main audio track becomes over-modulated due to some accident, the second channel is recorded 6 dB lower in level. Audio levels can be set to automatic, or manual to a series of preset positions. The best place to set the recorder with the included mic is the middle level, I found. My only difficulty was with the sliding switch used to place the recorder in the record mode. It requires a good finger nail to access, since the space is so limited. For older users, it also might be useful to wear a good pair of glasses the first time while setting up the menus. Once, set up, they are easy to check out with any eyes. A very nice, and useful device.

I love this little tiny digital audio recorder. I use it for recording jam sessions and performances. Being able to quickly change the mic pattern is great, as many times we jam or rehearse in a circle, and I can get much better audio by putting this in the middle and choosing Surround.

1/2 the price of local shops.

The Primera carts work until 1%, then I swap them out. What else to say?

1 worked great and one was a bit flakey, not sure why.
