2017 Macbook Charging Issues

Works with 16 MacBook Pro I have been using and loving the original Kickstarter version since 2017 so I felt that it's time for an update and this new 2020 version did not disappoint. This new 2020 version addressed all the minor issues I had with the 2017 Kickstarter version. - It now supports 4K60Hz HDMI (was previously 4K30Hz) - New magnetic grip (now the hub feels more stable and secure on the MacBook) - It now finally works with MacBook cases (just remove the grip) - Both USB-C ports now support pass-through charging - MicroSD card goes all the way into the hub - Now includes an USB-C extension cable (so you can use it with any USB-C device, not just the MacBook - Free leather pouch to keep everything nice and neat I have been using this 2020 version for more than a week and absolutely love it. There are many copycats in the market that copied the 2017 version so they still have the same old issues. HyperDrive has always been a pioneer and probably just came out with the best USB-C hub for the MacBook Pro/Air. 5 |

It works just as I expected, and it looks great on my MacBook Pro 2017. 5 |

I upgraded my 2017 MacBook Pro and it really seems it worth it. This new 2020 Macbook is very fast, has a much better battery and a totally new keyboard. As usual, Apple made a very good job! 5 |

I 'downgraded' from a top of the line 2017 15 Macbook Pro to this base model MacBook Air. My work consisted of programming and web browsing, and for those 2 use cases, this laptop actually performs better. Furthermore, the keyboard feels a lot better to type on than the previous generation, and shouldn't have any of the durability concerns. I also like getting the function keys back, the touch bar never did much for me. Lightweight, fast, and a great value. 5 |

I inherited a 2017 MBP at work and after doing a lot of research and trying out one other product I finally ended up with this hub to be able to accomplish my goal which was: pass through charging, add some usb ports for functionality and ,most difficult to achieve in conjunction with the other two, run a second display at 4k @ 60hz. With this hub and a Type C to Display Port cable it is possible although your power gets plugged into the second port which allows 60W of charging pass through (I believe the MBP would like up to 61W) instead of the 100W you'd get out of the main port but that's the one you need to use to enable 4k @ 60hz. It all seems to be working so I am happy! 5 |

I was struggling to get any sort of multicam editing done on Final Cut Pro X using a 2017 MacBook Pro. Though this was an investment, I decided to upgrade to this instead of an entirely new computer for now, and I'm super glad I did. The build quality, the performance, and the ease-of-use is second to none. The pelican-style case is a nice addition as well for when editing on the go happens. The most important question isn't whether or not to get this, but to decide what size best fits your workflow. For me the 2TB was sufficient as I only work on one project at a time. I could see upgrading to another larger one later if that changes. 5 |
