208V Window Air Conditioners

I often record in my apartment or at the studio where I work - there is a ton of background noise like traffic, air conditioners, and creaky floors. The high pass filter for perfect for filtering those consistent background hums. Of course, a little fancy editing too. We purchased an Eve Weather Station, and a Logitech Circle View week ago for monitoring our pet's room a week ago. Since we only had a couple of window air conditioners available as heat wave was starting, and could not leave room door open, we wanted a way to check in on our dear pet and make sure the room was not getting too hot for their health. Prior to this purchase, we had never made use of Apple's HomeKit technology and were completely ignorant of how it worked. Setup was very easy and quick. In addition to the Home app on our phones, we also downloaded the Eve app (this is not required per se, but may be to allow for firmware updates to the Eve Weather Station when made available). The app provides nice graphing for tracking trends or pinpointing historical readings, for example the difference in temperature before and after we added weather sealing to the window around the air conditioner. We were very happy with how easily this worked out, so we purchased several more and have distributed them throughout our living spaces. We are curious to look into seeing if we can also download the data as backup for later analysis as we experiment with other experiments and changes and attempts to manage heat and cooling. (This is a very old place with original, single-pane windows, there is very little insulating, and a southern exposure!)

My new iPad air 2 hangs around the kitchen mostly (we have a great bay window there) and I use it for cooking as well as when my granddaughter comes to play with it. The base is very secure, even on a glass tabletop, and I can make the pad face completely towards the ceiling for cooking, but also adjust it for other uses. Adjustments are seemingly infinite and secure. I do not imagine I would have to repurchase it, it is very sturdy. Although the backstrap for holding up the iPad during presentations seems a but unnecessary for my purposes, I can se where it would be useful.

If you absolutely MUST have 208V *and* 120V receptacles available in your rack, and you just don’t have the rack space for an external step-down transformer, this 3U (5.25” height) UPS is just what you’re looking for. Few other UPSes offer this unique capability. Double conversion topology is top-of-the-line technology, as well. Just make sure you have plenty of friends around to help you install it because it weighs a stout 128 lbs.!

Not every application for a high quality & high capacity, 208V UPS requires rackmounting. In fact, I have used this UPS in many medical and industrial locations where a free-standing, floor type UPS was required. It has the same dual conversion circuit configuration as the rackmount version, for the absolute best performance. Note that it is a hard wired input connection, however.

While almost every piece of computer gear can now operate on 208V (which you really should be doing…), there are still usually 4 or 5 items that MUST still be connected to 120V. This step-down transformer is the perfect device to allow that, with little fuss or complication.
