2Tb External Hard Disk Usb Powered

A common issue with external hard drives with 2TB storage is that they are wall-powered and tend to heat up. However, this product is physically small, portable, USB-powered (only one port required), and does not appear to generate heat. It is easy to use on either Windows, Linux or Mac OS and can be easily set up with any backup software. This is one of the better priced external hard drives of any size.

1st class technologies. This type is more sturdy and reliable than an USB powered external disk which are not up to robust use.

The WD 2TB My Passport USB 3.2 Gen 1 External Hard Drive is an excellent memory device, small and powerful, and makes it easy to organize and move your files within the device.

At first I was skeptical with the dimensions that my Seagate 2TB External Hard Drive would fit into this case. I called the store and the gentleman assured me it would. So, I got it. This case provides the protection I need to carry my External Hard Drive from one location to another and with the hard-shell design, I can have confidence that my external hard drive will function when I plug it in to my laptop.

I am using this case to store my WD 2TB My Passport External Hard Drive. The cover is semi rigid which provides some protection against accidentally banging the hard drive, although I would not want to drop the hard drive. It also provides a separate area for storing the USB cable which comes with the hard dive. Very convenient.

I just added the WD 4TB Elements External Desktop Hard Disk Drive to my back up solution (6 hard drives) and Windows 10. I disconnected the power and USB cable from a full WD hard drive and replaced it with this new drive and fired it up. It works great, just like I would expect from Western Digital.

I bought the disk-less version, and added my own WD 4Tb RED disks. I am running a RAID 10 array for photos and other stuff. This is now my primary external; disk drive system for my iMac where I will store the photo library and other data. It took about 55 hours to transfer of approx 100,000 photo images using the Lightroom interface. It was slow, but it was the first copy to this RAID array; I expect it will be faster from now on. As for my backup, I am considering this RAID primary and secondary. My next level of backup is WD portable 4Tb disks backup from the RAID using the included tools. I will pass on two things that I learned (so far): 1) LaCie externally powered (non-USB powered) disks will cause this NAS system to freeze up, requiring an unplug and restart. I am now using only USB powered backup drives. I will rotate 1 of 2 USB drives as a backup each week and keep it in a fire safe offsite. (subscription cloud storage service seems too slow and too expensive for what I needed) 2) You can access your data remotely (over an internet connection, but you cannot access the NAS dashboard unless you are at home / office where the NAS is located. This is really not a factor for me. This device is setup to backup your phones, iPads, MacBooks using Time Machine. I assume that it works just as well with a PC or Android.

No issues so far. Not particularly fast, but this is expected from a USB powered external drive.
