5 Computer Monitor Video Card

My first ground loop from computer audio card to powered monitor speakers was corrected by plugging the monitors in to the same outlet as the computer. Then I upgraded my video card to a much more powerful one and the buzz came back when the video card was churning. Back to the internet to find a solution and this product seemed to be my best bet. It worked like a charm, the buzz is gone again and I don't hear any degradation in sound quality. Highly recommend. 5 |

Since I got my recent computer in 2013, I've been trying to get an output to my TV using the normal composite output, which the video card sadly doesn't have. (Although S-Video is an option for my TV as well, it sometimes doesn't detect it properly.) After having tried 3 other VGA to composite scan converters, I thought I would try this Gefen scaler and use the HDMI output on my video card. And it seems I made the right choice at last! While the previous scan converters suffered with a somewhat stuttery PAL output, the Gefen scaler isn't really all that bad at it. It is a little bit stuttery here and there, but nothing to get in a fuss about. When I watched a TV show using it, it wasn't noticeable at all. The image quality is pretty fine, and like it promised, it gives you a choice of resolutions. You'd probably want to stick to about 1024 768 pixels to read stuff from your computer, or otherwise it gets too tiny for your television. I tried both the S-Video and composite outputs, and they were both very good. I also tried it with my XBOX 360, and it worked fine with that too. The underscan setting is just right for my TV, if you want to get the whole image on your screen without anything cropped. It was nice to see that the power supply works from 100 to 240 V, and it also came with a set of Australian style pins, which I was happy to use! (It also had USA, British and possibly European ones too.) The metal case seems rugged and the screw in style HDMI plug is a good idea to keep it from being pulled out. All in all, it seems very well made, and it looks pretty nice as well. 5 |

Wow, resolution to spare. I've been using a couple of D750s for a few years and decided to upgrade. I shoot mostly events and products. For the events, I go for expressions and action, and don't pay a lot of attention to exact cropping. I do that in post. With the 750's I had some headroom to work with, but sometimes I'd end up with grain due to enlarging too much. With the 850, with 45megapixels to play, I'm getting amazing resolution without losing anything. With the D750's, like most digital cameras, if you over exposed, you're hosed. While I try to underexpose slightly, with the 850, it seems more forgiving when exposing hot. Bringing up detail from the depths is also great. Overall, I probably use less that 5% of its built-in capabilities, but that 5% has take my images to a new level. My only gripe is the two different memory cards, CF and SD. I shoot duplicates in case of card failure. If the SD fails, I'll have to use an external card reader (my laptop has a SD reader built in). But, despite this, it's my new #1 body. 5 |

Now that I have graduated from a Video8 to a Flash Card based HD Camcorder, I think I will be taking a lot more videos. The size of this unit makes it easy to haul around with you... it fits in the same backpack I use to carry my SLR camera in one of the lens pouches. Video is clear and the many configuration options is a plus. Indexing through the different video scenes is a breeze... no more FF or Rew the tape! Downloading the video to your computer is a snap and the SW that is provided, though basic, gets the job done. It creates a library that allows you to easily enjoy what you shot on your computer. 5 |
