60Hz Thunderbolt Cable

2024-04-04 01:34:22

I've always kept studio monitors in my editing bay and before Thunderbolt docks, I never had a problem with 60hz buzz. 3 iterations of Thunderbolt and 3 docks later, I've got all kinds of interference and ground loops, and having made a recent switch in desktop setups, a 60hz buzz with all kinds of tonal electronic whining reared its ugly head. It was so bad I had to eliminate my studio monitors from my desktop, which just isn't right. Toss in the HE18 and voila, it's all gone! For a passive unit, it's well built and even looks nice. Plus, it seems pretty tough so I wouldn't have any qualms about taking it into the field. Totally worth it!

I bought this cable to take advantage of the 120hz monitor refresh rate. HDMI only goes to 60hz.

This is a short Thunderbolt cable. The length is perfect for my needs.

On a Mac, at least. Make sure you have an actual thunderbolt 3 cable.

First be sure to get the IOGEAR DisplayPort 1.4 Male Cable to get 60hz refresh rate. A standard HDMI will only give you 30hz and the monitor will feel sluggish and pixelated. Second, wow, what a bargain. I bought this monitor for photo editing and I'm blown away with the clarity, color, and vibrancy. Albeit, it was a big upgrade from my 10 year old monitors, but I really couldn't ask for anything better. I even played a few games that ran smooth as butter. I might even buy a second one.

I have a 27 4K LG monitor that works at 60hz (refresh rate), I previously only had a Mac that could support 30hz so at the time it didnt matter.  Now I have 15 Macbook Pro (2018). I paired the Macbook Pro with a CalDigit Thunderbolt 3 Mini dock with dual HDMI, which youll need if you want to do 60hz with a dock rather than just a USB-C cable/adapter.  I thought any old HDMI cable would work, I was wrong and now I learned there are different capabilities of HDMI cables, basically they vary in the bandwidth they can support.  This cable from IOGEAR supports 4K over 60hz,  so now everything is hunky dory.  I would prefer a thinner cable, but this does what it is supposed to do, and thinner cables dont go past 30hz.
