Access Network Files On Android Tablet
WD_lou | 2024-07-19 03:56:46 |
I needed to replace an older (10 years?) WD network accessible drive that was beginning to have occasional performance issues. These seemed to get worse as I offloaded data to other storage in prep for replacing it. I read almost all of the reviews prior to deciding on this one, especially the best & worst reviews. The worst reviews mostly dwelt upon problems with setup & transfer speed. What I discovered was the WD My Cloud Home app had no problems locating & connecting to the drive. That part was actually easy. The process for adding files using the app seemed a bit cumbersome though. Normally I prefer to use my external hard drives as just another drive and access them with Windows File Explorer, making my transfers manually. That was the only part I had any issue with. After finding some recommended steps in the WD community help forum, the drive showed up in Explorer and has been performing great. In fact the transfer rate has been much faster than with previous drives. Now I transfer files with Explorer and access them with the app. I like being able to access files from anywhere on my network. My previous drive could also do this but was more cumbersome and was more limited in accessible file types that could be played within the app. My desktop has a fairly large library of .flac format audio files that I can now listen to from anywhere in my house without having to convert them first. I was not interested in accessing my files from anywhere but home and even connect through a subnetwork to further isolate from outside access. Read all the reviews both good & bad but for me it works great. If there are any issues that turn up later I'll update. 5 |

After my 2'nd Samsung Tablet (in 5 years) broke, I decided to give Apple a try. This is my first apple product. I've always been a windows (pc) and Android ( tablet/phone) user, so when I needed a new tablet, I figured I'd give apple a try. $329.00 is cheap to try the apple eco system.... IOS seems a bit more restrictive than Android (maybe that's a learning curve ?)... but, so far, I am very impressed. From a user interface/usability standpoint, it is much more enjoyable to use than my Samsung (Android) tablet, albeit the Samsung was 3 years old. Very seemless integration with my Microsoft One Drive Cloud storage/MS office products. Got the apple pencil as well.... Why not ! I'll probably always stay with Windows OS for a pc, but may take a bite of the apple when I get a new pbone... 5 |

I bought an Android tablet, put a hard plastic case around it, glued a quick-release plate to the case, and I use this arm to mount the tablet to my rig for use as a field monitor. The arm is much stronger than I expected it to be. I bought it because I'm broke and I figured that for this price, it wouldn't break me if it didn't hold... But it does hold... It easily holds the weight of a Google Nexus 10, its case, and the Manfrotto RC2 quick-release. I can hot-show mount it on my 5D2 or mount it anywhere I can find a 1/4-20 hole. So, I'm psyched that I made the buy. 5 |

Have seen and heard/read about Ubiquiti products for years and finally made a plunge to replace my aging/ancient home network components consisted of dd-wrt flashed access points and a switch with dying ports. Ended up purchasing a) USW Flex Mini 5-Port Gigabit Managed Switch, b) U6 Pro Access Point and c) U6 Access Point in the end. They’ve been up and running with no issues for about a month now. I have pfSense running as my router, DHCP server, and f/w and they’re working together with no issues. The new Unifi components along with Unifi controller/network server (free download with no subscription charge and i’m running it locally) provide a truly “unified” view and current status of my network, which I didn’t have before. Since all of my access points are wired, I cannot speak for their mesh capability. I’m happy with purchase and hoping to add another access point (in-wall version this time) soon. As always, shipping from B&H was fast. 5 |
