Adding A Router To Home Network Wirelessly

I love my Synology router but I needed a little more coverage throughout my home. Adding this to my network has made a big difference and I’m thinking of getting one more to ensure I’ve got good coverage in my back yard.

Fast Router. Feels like a quality made product, more like an industrial or enterprise product feel. I have my SB8200 cable modem on eth0, home office on eth1, and Linksys mesh network on eth2. It took me about 30 mins to setup being new to this type of router. Used basic wizard to setup. Made sure NAT was enabled. Firewall is enabled. I had to reset cable modem to get things going. I used various videos on you tube for setup help. Router CPU and RAM barely get used during testing of several 4K Video Streams, ip phone calls, file transfers, and speed tests running at the same time. My COX gigablast connection runs at full speed most of the time. I still need to do some real throughput testing, machine to machine on local network. I use Airflow and VLC to cast 4K content from home office to my living room entertainment center. I definitely noticed a time difference. It simply takes less time for actions to engage and finish. I can tell it has a better brain. Time will tell with reliability but I suspect it will be my router for a long time. So far, I'm happy with its performance.

I have purchased this router to add to my existing eero 6 setup (router + extender). Adding it to the network was quick and painless. I purchased a router instead of another extender because I needed the ethernet port for accessories and everything worked well plugged in. The eero app is also much nicer than the Linksys one I used in my previous wifi system.

I already have an existing Unifi network, this is just adding an additional switch to my environment. I was able to add the switch to my network using the Unifi app without any issues, and the switch was up and running in five minutes after a firmware update. This is more of a prosumer or small business switch that is fully managed so it's not recommended for your average home user. I would recommend Unifi products to anybody that wants a net work at home that gets regular firmware updates and has a lot of enterprise features.

My home network is all Ubiquiti. This small, inexpensive, managed switch is ideal for adding multiple devices to a single ethernet port that exists in each room. Since it can be powered via POE, I don't. need to have a 110 Volt outlet for it.

I own 2 of these routers, one is in my office and the other is at home. I use both with a Synology NAS (1819+ and 1621xs+). At home I also use a Synology mesh router to expand the reach of the wi-fi signal. The price is an excellent value, it represents not only the hardware (very solid) but also the software side. Synology software is incredible, once you get it up and running, the control software is truly wonderful...by that, I mean the software that runs like a desktop inside your web browser, not the DS Router App which is buggy and more limited (but still useful for monitoring the network from your smart phone). You can install VPN software that runs on the router itself (Synology VPN Plus) and remotely login to your wi-fi router and access files on the network as if you were physically there. Cool! The control software also runs diagnostics and tells you if you have poor cables, bad connections, interference, or other issues. You can assign individual users and control access, add parental controls, etc.. And it all works marvelously. By the way, the mesh works wonderfully, as a true mesh ought to do, it optimizes bandwidth to each device as necessary. You don't have to login to separate networks as you move around, Synology's control software does it for you, seamlessly and with no data interruption that I've seen.

The providers router is located just inside of the font wall of the home. Signal was very weak or non existsnt at the the rear of the home. The router is located on the middle floor of three levels. I added this device to the same floor at the rear of home and I now have complete coverage. Installation was simple, but the range extender would not connect to my 5k network. After a few minutes on the phone with tech support, the issue was resolved. The issue was related to the channel selection of the 5k network in my router. I recommend this product and tech support was very good when I needed it.

I ordered this shelf to hold by home network equipment (router, battery backup, NAS) to a wall. It feels well made, opens and collapses easily, and is easy to mount.

I just upgraded my home network to this router (ASUS ZenWiFi ET8). My hope is for this to provide a stable platform with enough bandwidth to provide access points for a growing smart home, internet and streaming. So far so good. We are getting Gigabit speeds on the hardwired PC and close to gigabit on our phones. This is an improvement over the previous network mesh router we had, it seemed to be capped around 600MB. This is one of the only routers to support all the latest standards, so hopefully it will be good for a few years at least. Installation was easy as long as you have some basic understanding of networks. We gave the new router the same name and password as the previous one and all the smart home equipment moved to the new router with no problems. Right now, I believe this is the best home router you can buy.

I wanted a better solution for my home network than another router that looks like it could take off for space at any moment to return to its home planet. I have a Google Fiber 8g connection and I wanted something that allows a connection straight from the Google Fiber Jack to the WAN Port of the Dream Machine without needing to go through Googles bridged router. I then hardwired Unifi Access Points (uses PoE - no power cables!) and I can upgrade them individually as WiFi tech improves. Genius. This gives you full network routing, firewall, route control, DHCP, VPN and as a bonus also works as IP cam video recorder. The setup and configuration is a breeze too. If you are novice in the world of networking I would not suggest this, but if you are power user, this thing is a beast. It has more than enough power to handle a home full of data hogs all using the connection at the same time with no impact to speeds or quality of use. Another fun feature is you can have a second internet connection connected that works as either a fail-over or the Dream Machine can use both simultaneously and handles all the necessary routing internally so clients don't see any impact. I can't imagine buying another home router from the normal consumer brands after using this.
