Advantages Of Solid State Drives Over Hard Disks

Compared to old Hard drive which was not solid state, the new drive respond time is noticeable. Did not want to change drives because thought I was wasting money $243. but after changing drives glad I did. Ron I

I am IT guy who replaces mechanical hard drives with solid state hard drives approximately once per week. This is a great brand, with a good product at a great price. If you want to compare SSDs, look for the highest number of Input / Output Per Second (IOPs) to best judge performance. Read/write speed is not a good indicator. I would rate the drive as a B+, which is more great for most uses.

I used this drive to clone a laptop hard drive to a solid state drive. Worked well.

I have tested this SATA to USB cable using several different SATA disks including regular 2.5" spinning disks and 2.5" SSD disks. The cable comes in zip lock bag with a little instruction book. The cable is very strong feeling and has a good amount of flex. The cable is long enough that I can connect it to a USB port on the bottom of my normal size PC tower and have the other end with the drive sit on top of the tower. The SATA end of the cable has 4 tiny pin holes in it which on close inspections with a drive connected, one of them has an LED in it. The LED stays lit to indicate that it is working and then flashes for disk activity. When connected, the computer detected the cable and attached drive very quickly. Transferring data to the drive was very quick and consistent in speed throughout the process. I have confirmed that this cable only works with 2.5" drives as the product describes. I guess USB just doesn't have enough power for full size 3.5" drives, which isn't a flaw of the product but larger hard drives. Great simple cable to get data from 2.5" drives. It actually really hard to find WD UltraStar drives that are actually supported to the five year warranty If you read the BackBlaze Disk Report https://www.backblaze.com/cloud-storage/resources/hard-drive-test-data these are the go to reliable disks for NAS. But trying to find an actual new supported product is almost impossible. Thanks to B&H for sourcing this for us. I checked my disks on the WD site when they arrived and they did check out as fully support for the 5 year period. Thanks

Cost effective cable for migrating my old hard drive to new solid state drive.

The LaCie Rugged hard drives are very reliable and tough. This is my sixth one. Over many years I've never had one fail. They are useful for data backups which don't require fast transfer speeds. If you need a faster drive, 'consider the LaCie Rugged SSD Pro models.

Over the years, I've accumulated a box of old SATA hard drives as I've upgraded capacities in my laptops. While limited in their use right now, these old drives are perfectly functional and many of them still contain legacy files. I normally use an inexpensive USB enclosure whenever I need to access these drives but this adapter cable has proven to be much handier. I just plug a drive onto the SATA connector and plug the other end into a USB port on a computer ... Voila! I get fast USB 3.0 performance from newer drives while preserving USB 2.0/1.1 compatibility with older devices. It doesn't get any easier than this! Perfect!
