Akg K240 Studio Headphone Amp

The AKG K240 Studio headset has a very balanced and precise sound throughout the frequency range. The bass is powerful and the treble is crystalline. I listen to music of various kinds, from Opera to Rock and I really like the rendering of details that K240 can give. It's really fantastic.

The AKG K240 Studio Pro Semi-Open Stereo Headphones continue to be widely used in recording studios because of quality build, long lasting performance without degradation of sound quality, detailed sound without an overbearing amount of mid highs, light weight for comfortable long wear time, super comfortable soft, wide headband and large ear pads that won't hurt your ears, a semi open design that allows ambient sound without distraction, and an extra long wire that is uncurled so it doesn't put strain on any audio jacks or connections.

At this price point, and after having owned 5 studio headphones over a few decades, AKG K240 MKII, K553 MKII, Sony MDR-7506, KOSS PRO 4AA & 4AAA, I have found THE Referred Personal Listening Tool.

Comparing this to AKG K240 Studio monitoring headphones it is not as good. But it's very close. This was the only headphone I could find with a removable cable at this price point. Sound quality is very good but not excellent. This may be that I haven't broken the headphones in yet, but the sound stage is stiff and the treble with percussion is a bit muddled without good separation like on the AKG. These headphones have more emphasis on the low-end than the AKG 240's though. Comfort-wise these headphones fit better than AKG from the get-go -- it took awhile for the AKG's to loosen and stop squeezing my glasses to my head. However, I wish the pads were slightly bigger or oval shaped to fit the ears more comfortably. The padding is very soft. Another reviewer noted that the Polsen's 32ohm drivers cannot be driven by an iPad, but this is not the case. I had no issues when testing with normal volumes on an iPad Mini 2. The AKG K240's are 55 ohms in comparison and are decidedly quieter. A good purchase for good quality monitoring.

I finally replaced my 11-year old AKG K 701 headphones with something newer - the Sennheiser HD600's. Actually, the HD600's hit the market before the now-discontinued K 701's but they appear to be a timeless design that still finds favor with studio pros and music lovers alike. I needed the higher impedance (300 ohms) of the HD600's as compared to the newer AKG K 712's - the replacement for the K 701's. The higher input impedance of the HD600's are a better match for my headphone amp which has a relatively high output impedance of 10 ohms. If you don't have a roughly 10-to-1 difference between the output and input impedance your system it could create some severe frequency response irregularities. I was hearing this with my old K 701's driven by my new headphone amp. The HD600's solve the problem, sound great and are very comfortable. I just hope they last as long as the AKG's...

I have used this amp in my home studio for over four years and it works great with my AKG Monitor 600 ohm phones as well as low impedance ones. It has always presented an accurate image of what the tracks sound like through my speakers; no gain or loss of high or low end and no problem driving four sets simutaneously. Haven't really experienced any negatives thus far.

We're a voice-over studio and it helps to have a clean headphone feed...and this little amp shines. It was a rocky start as the first one arrived with no left channel and a terrible hum. A call to B&H and a replacement arrived quickly. The second one is low-noise, has plenty of power, and the price is right.

I have been using the AKG K240 phones for 20+ years.  This is my third set.  They have always given me a fairly accurate representation of sound for getting a reference mix - the newest ones are no exception.  Lightweight, comfortable in long sessions, and now with detachable (read: easily replaced) cable - these are my favorites!

AKG K240 gives very interesting and clear sound from almost any source^ including built-in laptop sound card (though I was afraid I'll need the amplifier). Bass are deep enough and not too annoying or smashing your brains. Very good works the self-adjustment system when it's always fits your head. They are semi-open which means you still are able to hear sounds around you. What is not good: when listening music loudly people around can hear it as well with you.. and saying that you are sharing a good music :)

Just received my AKG K240 headphones. Very imprese. Hearing sounds in my music I have not heard before. AKG makes the best headphones, I am convinced!
