Akg P220 Acoustic Guitar

In my project studio I record various acoustic instruments such as guitar, upright bass and violin. I also record vocals and various hand percussion. I have traditionally used small condensers such as Neumann KM 184's and AKG C451-B's but was craving the sound that only a large diaphragm can deliver. I love AKG products especially those built in Vienna. So far have only used the 214 on vocals, acoustic guitar and middle eastern percussion and it more than met my expectations. I love the AKG sound. To me AKG's are not as transparent as Neumann BUT that is what I dig about it..it brings a bit of color and an openness. At the price point..this is a must have mic..you can never go wrong with AKG

So far I have used the TLM 103 to record a male vocal and acoustic guitar. I am delighted with my purchase.... I had already recorded a vocal using another similarly priced AKG product and I rerecorded it with the 103 and I was very pleased with the result. To be fair the AKG went through a Demeter mic pre and the 103 went through a BAE 1073 MP, so no doubt that brought something else into the equation, but either way I was delighted with the new vocal recording. I also tried the acoustic guitar with the matched stereo pair of 103s and it was beautifully alive and crisp. The Anniversary matched stereo pair came with two shock mounts in a very swish aluminum case which for fussy people like me has it's own delight. As of now I can't find anything wrong with the TLM103.

I have a project studio and record primarily acoustic instruments (Guitar, piano, various stringed instruments, hand percussion and vocals etc) Already own a set of Neumann KM 184's and an AKG C214 Large Diaphragm but have always had a fondness for the AKG small diaphragm sound ever since I started out years ago with a Vienna made C1000 (which I still have and love). I wanted another small diaphragm option and the 451's deliver big time. To be totally non technical I would describe the AKG's sound as open and airy especially on fingerstyle acoustic guitar. I tell people think of the old Windham Hill guitar sound. (yes I know they used Neumann's too). You will not go wrong with this mic if you play acoustic music.

The quality and craftsmanship of this mic is amazing. I used this to replace both a Rode NT-1 and AKG P220 and I've been nothing but impressed.

I vacillated over which mic I should buy to pair up with my acoustic guitar and my Fender Acoustic Junior amp. This turned out to be ideal.
