You never know what airborne threats are there that can damage your lens, so protection is always necessary. My equipment needs it all the time, and I keep it there. I have noticed that it doesn't interfere with the composition at all, and the filter was actually very helpful when I shot near the ocean with water spray hitting the filter while not getting anywhere near the lens. I can't say that there is anything I don't like about this filter.

I work in Airborne Law Enforcement. I have used numerous brands and styles of stabilized binoculars in my career each with their own benefits and compromises. These are hands down the best I have used. Zero compromise with these. The clarity in both high and low light conditions is incredible. The stabilizing is also incredible. After being passed around our unit, we all agree these will be the new standard binoculars for our unit. If you're on the fence about them, you will not regret your purchase or the price. The fact they have a replaceable silicon housing is also an awesome feature.
