Great speed writing and reading. If your computer has USB3 capability, you will benefit by USB3 drives.

using this as extra storage on a usb3 capable laptop, speeds are pretty quick and can barely tell its in the laptop.

I have only had this WD Elements Portable drive for about a week & a half. But, so far it works fine. I simply took it out of the box and connected it to my USB port and the drive was recognized by my computer. I am using this WD external drive for file backups. Over the following 5 days I proceeded to download about 2.5 TB of data from two external LaCie drives. All downloads were flawless. I should point out that I am connecting this WD drive to an 11-year old WIN7 computer that only has USB1 ports. The WD drive is USB3 compatible and has a USB3 cable. This all works fine with my old USB1 ports on my old desktop computer. So, perfect backwards compatibility from USB3 to USB1. In summary, the WD drive does everything that I expected it to do. So, I am very satisfied with the product.

I use this product to connect my usb ports on my monitor with my laptop, it isnt usb3 but it allows me to have more ubs ports that are more reliable than external hubs

I used the Boostlink on a concert sound job to connect a mixer and an HP laptop with usb3 ports, using 100 feet of cat5e cable. 18 channels of audio transmitted perfectly.
