I am using it to record. The fact that it can record to a standard .MOV or .MP4 file allows me to hand a copy of the event on an SD card, to my customer as soon as the event it over. No transcoding, no wasted time. I love it! The best part is that I record 2 copies, one to the SD card and another to a network mapped drive. Talk about back up to my back

This is a fabulous video camera with exceptional image quality. I own 2 units and a Lumix G85 for my interview studio and the images are as good as any broadcast camera 3 times the price. The camera has ND filters, a servo port for hooking up an ext zoom controller, 10bit 4:2:2 HDMI output and optional vlog for super high quality production when paired with an Atomos Ninja, clean video output and unlimited video record time. Also the camera will record 4K in camera while outputting 1080 for live stream applications so a high quality 4k output is possible. Highly recommended for most video applications. Not a run & gun camera, not weather sealed and photos are just adequate, this camera is more suited for video use. Lots of after market add on's available like ext power supply. Also the position of the tripod mount is in the centre of the body allowing for the battery door to be open for ext power usage. A small but important consideration for studio use. The audio record quality is actually very good. I was recording on an external recorder but have found the in camera audio record quality for studio talking head is excellent . I have used these cameras in very demanding, long day, long week, shoot situations and they have exceeded my expectations and are rock solid. Would I use this for run & gun news or photos, no, but for studio HDMI output or high end doc use with an ext recorder, absolutely as it is possible to accomplish the shallow depth by moving the camera back and using the zoom, all in a bridge camera for around $1000US. Great image, expectational versatility in a very robust package for studio video, corporate, live stream, doc production.

Works as described, I use it for an iPhone 5 to record quick video/audio in my studio, I also use it at live gigs to have my phone available to play samples between songs and during set change overs. Seems well made and I've never had any issues.

I used this for a makeshift video studio in my garage where I record promos, commercials and Odysee videos. It's definitely MUCH more effective than green cloth, house paint or other budget solutions. The color purity is excellent and I can do clean comps with a simple color matrix in my editor rather than specialized plugins, which is nice (efficient). I'm using a proper 3-chip video camera so that also makes a difference due to the better color purity of the camera itself. I only needed to cover a 260CMx150CM area so I still have some left after several coats.

I use the mount in my studio where we record a live streamed video podcast. It can be seen weekly on @The mount is professional looking. Stays in the place you put it with having to grind down on a gear like on other types of mounts.The only thing I say is wrong with it is I can't run the end connector of and xlr cable through the bottom of the mount. The cable lays nicely to the side and that works just fine.

I use this for in-studio video in my recording studio. It records beautifully at lower light levels. The ability to record 2 formats at once is a time saver. It is compact, light and all the functions are easy to learn. The battery takes a long time to charge.

When using something like BMD Micro Studio 4K and their 4K Video Assist, you must use a SDI cable to record in UHD. Micro 4K only sends 1080p out through the HDMI port.

I easily transferred about two dozen family video Hi8 and VHS tapes to .mp4 format with this product. The problems I had came from the Hi8 camcorder and VCR, not from Elgato Video capture. I could easily import the mp4 files into iMovie to edit, export or burn a DVD. With Apple TV and iTunes I can watch these videos now without all the hastle that analog tapes entailed. I would have appreciated a way to burn DVDs for other family members who aren't so computer savy without going through iMovie, which for me has been a steep learning curve. But that's nitpicking. Once you've digitized all your old video tapes, however, there isn't anything to use this product for that I know of.

I first purchased the StarTech Video Capture Adapter Cable, which did work but it took me several days to get digitized video that was acceptable. It also took a long time to end up with MP4 files. I had to do another conversion with an H.264 encoder which more than doubled the production time. After a chat session with StarTech I decided that the way to go was to purchase their hardware solution. It did cost about 4 times as much, but all of the heavy lifting is done in the hardware and not in software as was the case with the adapter cable product. The hardware figures out the best capture configuration for the video source, then delivers the digitized video to my computer's USB 3.0 port. The Stream Catcher software provided has a few configuration settings, but it's nothing like the complexity of the adapter cable product. And, one of the output formats available is MP4 which was not the case with the other product. The video quality seems very good. The device has a lot of additional capabilities that I don't need, but may be just what others need. Spend a few more dollars and get a really good solution to support your video capture needs.

We use them for doing backups of our videos and shows. We backup video as an MOV and MP4 file type. We have large 30 minute shows and we can get 6 shows on one Dual Layer DVD. It saves time when you bont keep changing the DVDs.
