This is a huge leap from may IR remote - no need to point at the camera anymore.

Works great on distances longer then the IR Nikon remote. Has been very reliable.

I use these to adapt my ir remote trigger to a number of different camera systems. I use and abuse these cables and they never let me down.

I have a IR remote which works great but it has limitations vs this that allows you to work with much more freedom and much much more distance

I wanted an IR remote for my Sony A7r3. I have had unpleasant experiences using the wired remote... the connection to the camera is too fragile and if I am in a creek bed it is always a challenge to keep the remote out of the water. The Vello is easily clipped to a neck lanyard and also comes with a miniature carabiner. Perfect for my needs and very inexpensive. (Note, you have to get into the Sony menus to turn on the option for using the IR remote).

Works exactly as expected. I only wish the T4i had an IR senson on the back of the camera as well as the front. Not an issue with the remote, however.

Without a Wireless remote for your Nikon DSLR you are just risking the quality and sharpness of your images. Using the timer is a good option, but the timer will not be a good option for all photo occasions. For example when shooting with long telephotos this is so important, and if you what to minimize vibration from the mirror by locking the mirror up. This is the device for Nikon DSLR users.
