Having just made a duel jump (from film to digital, and from Canon to Nikon) I had no direct comparisons, but this lens exceeded my expections in almost every catigory. The optics are excellent. I most often use it with a Nikon 1.4 teleconverter, and then magnify that image. With that in mind, a tripod is always a good idea and yet, I've taken photos of animals and birds hand-held with remarkable detail of fur and feathers. As others have indicated, the tripod mounting collar leaves something to be desired (I upgraded to an after market brand) but even with that minor flaw, this lens is a keeper. ... 5 |
