I am using this hard drive as Time Machine backup for my MacBook Pro. I bought it as an update to the WD Elements 6TB version that has been performing flawlessly for over 4 years. I purchased this 8TB version because I needed more space. I have trusted Western Digital hard drives as backup drives for my MacBooks for over 10 years now and never had a failure. I ordered an external hard drive for my new Apple MacBook Pro to store my photos on when traveling. This HD has rugged in it's name and certainly stands up to the name. I have only set it up and not used it yet, but if it performs as well as my other four LaCie external hard drives, it will be an investment well worth the money I paid for it. 5 |

I used this to transfer data from my old laptop Hard drive to my new one for my Macbook Pro early 2011. The adapter made data transfer so easy and took the guessing game out and worry out. I had no data loss and you could not even tell once the transfer was complete that you even switched hard drives. It's just like there was a hard drive in there all this time. The only issue I had was since my laptop runs on usb 2.0 the transfer was slower but if I had a usb 3.0 connection I'm sure the speed would have been quicker. 5 |

I got this hard drive for a system backup. I am checking to see how it works with Apple's Time Machine. So far it is working very well. I will then get another one just like it to rotate Off-site to protect my data. This is in addition to a cloud storage. 5 |
