Apple Macbook Pro M2 Multiple Monitors

The Apple 14 MacBook Pro with M2 Max processor has been fantastic so far. Nice keyboard and sound, sharp display, quick and long battery life. Compared to my old Macbook Pro 13 with an Intel processor, this machine runs circles around it and doesn't even need to be plugged into power to do it. I was a bit worried about compatibility with the ARM based processor and some of my software but everything I use has worked either natively or with Rosetta 2 which has been seamless.

The new Apple 16 MacBook Pro (M3 Max, Space Black) is the fastest MacBook Pro yet with the M3 Max setup. I went with 64 GB Memory and 2 TB Storage. The new Space Black is very cool as well. This new MacBook replaces my 1-1/2 year old M2 Max with same memory and storage. I would have to run benchmarks to tell the difference. The M2 Max was also blazing fast.

I’m running this beautiful monitor from a 2023 MacBook Pro, with the Apple M2 Pro chip, and couldn’t be happier. Installation was simplicity itself. It is positioned at a ninety-degree angle to a very large east-facing window, and the standard glass performs brilliantly for me, without glare or annoying reflections. The Nano Texture glass would have been an unnecessary expenditure in this particular situation. My order was filled within hours, and arrived overnight with free shipping. Perfect.

When I was looking at monitors to dock my M1 MacBook Pro to use at home, I was trying to find one that matches the Apple environment. Of course, I wanted the XDR but I just can't seem to justify $6K for a monitor (although if finances are not of matter or concern, then I would have gone that route). For my purposes of writing, email, Photoshop / Lightroom, I feel this Studio Display is plenty. Easily integrates with my MacBook Pro. Simplistic design and doesn't make the office feel cheap with plastic overload. I have a window in my home office so I went with the Nano-Texture glass option. It's great. I do not know what the screen without it is like though. Is it worth $1,800? Probably. Especially true if you want to stay in the Apple environment. It's going to work just fine for 99% of us unless you are an elite professional who desires the capabilities of XDR.

I bought two of these to use with my MacBook Pro M1 Max as a video editing workstation. ***Note that the only way I was able to display 4K at 60 hertz on both monitors simultaneously was to plug BOTH monitors directly to the MacBook via USB-C to DisplayPort cables. Once I did that and stopped trying to get them to work through the Thunderbolt 4 Dock I have, everything looks excellent.*** The resolution is great, as I can have Premiere Pro open on both monitors with one of the two showing the footage in the program window at close to actual size, which helps to see all the detail of the 4K image while editing. Colors look really good, and while this isn't a reference monitor designed for color grading Hollywood movies, it's plenty accurate for my videography work. Aside from video editing, text is super sharp and crisp, and photos and websites look excellent. Since it's an LCD, black levels are never going to look as inky black as they do on an OLED display, but that's to be expected. You can always get a small OLED TV to use as a makeshift client reference monitor. I originally wanted the Apple Studio Display, but at $1600 for one monitor, it was way too expensive for me. On Black Friday, I was able to snag TWO of these Asus ProArt 27 displays for under $800. That's less than half of ONE Apple display! Sure, it's not made of shiny aluminum, but who cares? Image quality is all I need, and this delivers in spades. Plus, they come with VESA mounting holes in the back as standard, so I was able to place them on a two-monitor VESA mounting arm and free up a bunch of space on my desk. I know the Apple display is 5K and this one is 4K, but two 4K monitors side by side get me way more resolution and work space than one 5K monitor. All in all, I heartily recommend this Asus ProArt 4K monitor to anyone looking for a high-res 27 LCD for content creation and general computing on a Mac (as long as you plug it in directly and not through a docking station).
