Aps C Mirrorless

The Nikon Z50 is an excellent complement to and a suitable transition from my Nikon D7100. It's Nikon's first APS-C mirrorless camera. A similarly-equipped Z6 would be more than three times as much (w/comparable full-frame 24-70mm and 80-400mm lenses) and would render my current APS-C glass obsolete. I always thought that full-frame lenses were the way to go for APS-C cameras because of the “sweet spot” argument, thereby avoiding the marginal corner performance of most non-professional lenses. This is self-defeating in the sense that one pays for the full-frame coverage and has to accept the concomitant weight penalty. The Z50 takes normal SD memory cards [albeit only one slot - SD/SDHC/SDXC (UHS-I)], and has a built-in flash that is lacking in the Z6 and Z7. Both kit lenses appear to have ultra-sharp optics, fast autofocus and are incredibly lightweight. Unfortunately, their lens shades are excluded from the kit. The FTZ Lens Mount Adapter became the decision-maker by B&H's offering it as a bundled savings. This makes my favorite compliment of Nikon Landscape & Macro Two Lens Kit with 10-20mm f/4.5-5.6G VR & 40mm f/2.8G as well as my Nikon DX Fisheye 10.5mm f2.8G ED totally usable. DX lenses on full-frame Z6 or Z7 bodies automatically crop their sensors to DX, so you're discarding more than half your sensor area and getting less resolution than by using them on a Z50. Granted, the Z50 lacks in-camera five-axis image stabilization, but alternatively, the lenses do have vibration reduction. If you own a majority of DX lenses, I highly recommend the Z50 mirrorless alternative.

Laowa's 90mm (full-frame) and 65mm (APS-C only) are the mirrorless successors of the legendary DSLR 100mm- minus the unusual filter-requiring design. This is a remarkable lens that makes no compromises in the process of minimizing size, unlike the recently released 85mm. Works wonderfully on the a6700 as part of a dedicated compact macro setup.

I shot Nikon for 10 years prior to purchasing this camera. Fuji's X series lineup is mature and capable. For $1000, you won't find a better mirrorless APS-C camera that the X-T3. Fuji's lens lineup is the main reason I switched from the Nikon Z50 to the X-T3. Nikon makes a terrific product but they only have two native lenses for the APS-C format mirrorless cameras. You can read detailed reviews about the X-T3 but my recommendation would be to consider the lenses available for any camera prior to purchasing.

This is my first time with a mirrorless camera and an APS-C camera, but I am now a big fan of both. The versatility of the camera and resolution of the images have opened up a new world of opportunities for me in terms of video and photography. I would highly recommend this for anyone looking to jump into mirrorless without breaking the bank. The RF lenses work great on this, and by all accounts the EF lenses do as well (all images were taken with the RF 50mm f1.8, essentially 80mm on crop sensor). I even adapted old vintage Pentax lenses onto it and their pictures look better than they ever have. APS-C has some weaknesses, but its crop can actually be beneficial for lenses as it focuses on the strong center rather than the edges which are prone to more issues. Overall, I love this camera and I think anyone who gets this will too.

I'm very satisfied with the APC RBC#33 battery pack purchased from B&H. I had previously tried a less-powerful aftermarket Duracell unit from Batteries+Bulbs but ended up returning it after I found the actual OEM part for $20 cheaper at B&H AND the option to add a SquareTrade 3-year warranty for $9.99. I ordered 2 more as a result and brought new life back into my APC UPS units that safeguard my digital assets.

Leica Summicron-M 50mm F2 lens (c.1982) to a new Sony a7R3 body is a good combo for me. Sony body set to "Auto" and up and going right out of the box. An old Kodak +3 close-up (supplementary) lens is a cheap way to get higher magnification with the Summicron.
