Audeze Maxwell Gaming Headphones

Worth the upgrade from Audeze Penrose X. I wanted the best of both world for audio and games. The Penrose did try to execute that, but they failed due to poor connectivity and poor battery life. Audeze solved all of that issues with the Maxwell. It would be awesome if Audeze honored Penrose owner with a discount on the Maxwell.

I have been through several gaming headsets for the PS5. I have finally landed on a pair that not only look and sound sleek, but do EXACTLY what I need. The digital AI noise cancellation works perfectly when eliminating background noise. But not only that, these cans have some amazing sound pumping through these magnetic drivers. No wonder Sony opted to buy Audeze. Connection to PS5 and PC is easy with the included usb-c adapter. Just make sure to pick the right source with the flick of a switch. You can update firmware and download custom EQs from the Audeze site, as well. Getting used to not using an app to make changes is a bit of a drag, but it’s worth it in the end to not have it. I have used ‘em all: Razer, SteelSeries, and Turtle Beach. Each have their own strengths but too many weaknesses. The Audeze Maxwell are just the perfect headset to add to your collection.

The Maxwells for me are awesome. I'm happy I got them. The volume is noticeably lower than that of the Penrose, but it's still loud enough for my liking. The bass is intoxicating but not overpowering. The highs are pleasant and I love it, although you can tell they relatively sound a bit veiled. This is one area where the Penrose headphones seem to excel as they sound brighter, though the highs in the Maxwell are a lot easier in the ears. I believe the better term to describe its highs is smooth. (Update: With the ability to customize EQs being available now, the highs are about where I want them. They sound so much better now.) Overall, the Maxwell headphone is a clear winner in almost every aspect. I hear more details than before, the comfort is excellent, even the soundstage appears to be slightly wider. Also love it has LDAC support so I can play music in 990kbps bitrate again. I was pleasantly surprised by how much better the headphones sounded while playing Hogwarts Legacy on my PS5. I noticed a slight improvement in the Tempest surround sound. As I pan my character around, the sound as it pans is more natural. It's like the sound's gradation from right to left and back again is much smoother. Could be a placebo so take it with a grain of salt, but the balance is between the left and right drivers are significantly more even. The controls are very intuitive. I can on the fly change eq depending on the song I play or the mood I'm in. I can finally go back or forward a track. I didn't expect to use this feature often, but I now switch to and fro sidetone mode on the fly since I use it as transparency mode. If I haven't been clear enough, I love this headset. It's my favorite headset/headphone I've ever owned so far

I had been looking around for a great set of headphones for quite sometime. I had been considering such brands as Audeze, Telefunkin and Master & Dynamic. The big problem for me is it's almost impossible to try before you buy and other headphones I was looking at are $400+ (and that's a lot for something I'm not certain I'm going to like!!!). But then, I came to my senses and realized I should just get another pair of Sony MDR-7506 Headphones. I had a set of these about 15 year ago and loved them. I don't recall what happened to them, but I remembered how great they sounded. They're also so much more budget friendly. Once I received them, I plugged them in and listened to some music and they sounded just as great as I remembered. Crystal clear, accurate sound. That's why I want from a set of headphones, and that's exactly what I got with these.

Very pleased with the Audeze purchase. The headphones are easy to setup and connecting to my Xbox is consistently good. No issues with mic or sound and I'm a fan of utilizing the headphones to watch shows through apps on Xbox as well.

I own several quality headphones. THE BETTER REVIEWERS ALWAYS COMPARE THE AUDEZE LCD-X to every headphone they review. So I bit the bullet and bought them from reliable B&H. And I can plug them into my laptop. Unbelievable quality.I really enjoy these.

Before buying these, I had the opportunity to listen to them, other Audeze headphones, and some high-end headphones at the B&H store on 9th Ave. I strongly recommend doing this if you can. The sales assistant was a pleasure, a man who enthusiastically enjoyed his work, as he led me through a educational tour of headphones from $1K to +$3K.  He convinced me once and for all of the advantages of open back headphones, which is not what I was initially going to buy. These headphones are a delight, and well worth their price. Bass is thumping, clear, crisp, and deep, vocals are precise, rounded, and well defined, the highs are pinpoints beautifully separated, without ringing, sibilence, hissing, or clashing.  The sound stage is perfect, wide, but not artificially too wide.  Compared to the Audio Technica M50x, these headphone are as revealing, but more musical.  There is a limit to how long I can listen to the M50x. So far I havent found a limit with these. Like the M50, the  LCD-X requires a good source, because youre going to hear everything thats there, as well as everything that isnt.  I am using a Hiby R6 to listen to MP3s and .WAV files, and a Roland R7 to listen to some orchestral works recorded in Hi Res. with excellent results. One complaint, despite what is advertised, these headphones do not come with a 1/4 to 1/8 adapter.  Make sure to order one at the same time.
