Affordable scanners are hard to find these days. Canoscan Lide 400 is one of a very few options from major brands. I previously used an older Canoscan model and liked it a lot, but it’s no longer supported by the new MacOS. I wanted another Canon. The Lide 400 has performed flawlessly for me. It has all the functions that I need: scanning to multiple file formats at multiple resolutions. On the Mac you don’t even need to download the Canon driver or utility software. MacOS recognizes this scanner when you add a scanner. Then you can use the native MacOS Image Capture utility to do basic scanning. The scanner has a USB C port. The included cable is USB C to USB A. It works just fine. But I use my own USB C to C cable and the file transfer to my Mac is faster. All in all, I am very happy with the purchase and the experience with B&H as usual.

Many reviews mention problems on MacOS, but it works without problem on MacOS 10.15 and 11, just be sure to install the driver, restart and that's it. The adapter is immediately recognized and provides read speeds up to 430MB/s and write up to 350MB/s. Not the full 5Gb speed but much better than Gigabit. Construction is solid, it gets warm but not super hot. A usb-C to usb-C cable would be better than the included usb-C to usb-A.

It speeds up 2x MacBook pro-2015. Easy to install, you just need to boot up from a USB with MacOS BigSur and all goes smooth.

All you need to know is what you get the entire storage. Very often you get less storage than offered. I bought 12tb model and was surprised macOS showed that 12tb available. Not 10-11tb like is happens all the time in a 12tb HDD. Things that not reflect my rating: - it makes some noice. Not a lot, but if you do VoiceOver, you would probably want to move this HDD or hide it under desk. Just remember it is not SSD. - Booting time is way too long. 5-6 seconds. Read my next point, why it is not really a con. - For some reasons, the HDD is always stops and starts. It does not spin constantly. And actually, it freaks me out. I am currently on macOS 12.6 and unchecked put hard disks to sleep when possible. I do editing in FinalCut, and it is just impossible to use it with. Why it is not a con? It is more like a software thing and I think it can be fixed, so the disk can spin all the time while the Mac is not sleeping. Or at least it can have like 5 minutes times before go to sleep. - unfortunately, is has a regular, not integrated, external power adapter, not an additional USB-C port for power. Not sure if technically it is even possible, but it would be so cool. - has very nice marked USB-C cable - reading/writing speed depends on the storage amount. Make sure you check it. Currently, 22tb is the fastest. In case every mb/sec is important for you.

This 26GB model is the right size for creating backup bootanle MacOS USB installer drives. If you need to do something like de-Ventura an M1 model, you can create a bootable Monterey installer to use in that process.
