Backpacking Clean Dishes

For support of heavy light modifiers, such beauty dishes, etc, etc.

I'm used to manual lenses so this is not an issue. The buttery bokeh this dishes out looks fantastic.

There are plenty of these beauty dishes used on @, however, paying just a little more gets you a brand new one without off-white discoloration on the modifier.

Well, I have had other beauty dishes from metal ones to portables from Fotodiox, Westcott, Profoto, etc. Always though they were about the same so I kept the Westcott Joel Grimes as it was easy to setup and very portable. A local was selling this Mola Setti for which I was always curious about. Turns out she wanted to sell it as she works on her own and needed something easier to handle, the Westcott BD I owned is the one she wanted. So I went to do some comparison shots believing that Molas were all hype and myth but with my natural curiosity it was a test I had to perform. Well...after analyzing the photos, I traded my Westcott plus cash and now I am the Mola. The quality of the light, how it goes from highlights to shadows..it just blew me away! Here is one sample from my first photoshoot with it...as with most BDs, it shines when closer to the subject but as the model was a young girl I used it for a full body shot.

If your previous experience with beauty dishes has anything to do with the PCB HOBD, you'll be happy to know that beauty dishes can be a relatively rugged piece of equipment. The Mola Demi is a wonderfully crafted piece of equipment that will probably last longer than most of my photography purchases. The way it shapes light is quite unique; it's somewhat difficult to describe. Having agonized over this purchase for quite some time, I can honestly say I have no regrets. It is indeed a worthwhile investment.

I've used beauty dishes my whole career however they are a pain to store and travel with. These foldable beauty dishes are light, quick to open and produce a beautiful even light.

When you need just a slight offset for the light this is a great tool. Especially for beauty dishes and parabolic modifiers 36'' and smaller.

I own 6 Mola beauty dishes and they each deliver a gorgeous and unique quality of light. The Setti is my go-to modifier when I want beautiful, semi-soft light with moderate specularity and a quicker falloff than one of the shallower profile dishes. This is a wonderful, versatile portrait and fashion tool. Out of curiosity I've read a few of the other reviews here and I'm surprised to hear anyone had issues with assembly. I found every Mola dish straight forward and simple to set up. I invested in cases as well as they're ideal for location use. Recommended!

Compared to pricing for other comparable beauty dishes, this one lacks nothing in quality! Considering that it came with a sock and a grid, one can't beat the value for this solidly build beauty dish. With only the additional purchase of an adapter for my Profoto B1, this is a fantastic piece of equipment!
