Band Instrument Selection Night

Wow, this works really well. I bought it for the band at our church. Makes it very easy for someone who plays an instrument and sings to have a decent in-ear monitor without spending a fortune. Very solid all-metal construction. Setup and use are very simple; the diagrams & labels silk-screened onto the top make it easy to see what should plug in where. As a nice additional touch, it doubles as a direct box for the instrument input. I highly recommend the optional MSC106 mic stand adapter if you're using this on stage. Only drawback is that you need a long cable or an extension for your ear monitor / headphones. If you mount this on a mic or music stand, you don't have a lot of room to move. We'll be buying a mix of these and the 1-channel PM50s to move our whole band to in-ear monitors.

We use a snake combining vocal mic, instrument mics, D.I.s, and monitor cables for each band member, running to their area of the stage from the stage digital mixer, and this product makes it easy to customize those changes and change out cables when necessary.

If anyone in your band wants more me control of their in-ear foldback for both their vocals and an instrument (or two instruments), then this is THE box for them! Ok so it costs more than the 2 channel competition, but this has the essential 3rd channel the others lack, plus an integral stereo DI box, so the total cost is much the same. What is really nice is the way it can be set for mono or stereo inputs on both the instrument channel and the main foldback. The cct diagram even contains instructions to convert the mic channel for line level inputs. A really useful box, and a much better buy in real terms than the competing products, for use by real musicians!

The gels themselves offer a great selection, and they are good quality. The included band holds them well on my canon 430exII. The case is really good quality, too, easily fitting into a pocket on my bag.

I run an acoustic musician's Open Mic Night in a local restaurant/bar. 2 Powered speakers and a Peavey 8-channel mixer. Using a 20 snake, I provide connections for 3 mics and 3 instrument connections via 2 Direct Boxes. It's a small room venue, and the PDC22's work flawlessly. They lowest price per port, and they perform as well as much more expensive products. Surprisingly, the signal is cleaner than plugging the instrument directly into the mixer. Couldn't have asked for a better solution. Great bang-for-the-buck!

I have had one of these for years. I am not a singer, but a band member who has to take 3 or 4 vocals a night to provide rest to the actual singers. That said, this always makes me sound better than any other mic. A tech told me it is a simple matter of more gain before feedback. If the gain is way up, the mic picks up all the nuances my voice, so I can do a lot with the little I've got. Whatever. I've used the beta58 since the 90's, I wish it were the same price as its grandaddy the SM58. But that's not how it works.

I used this lens last night to shoot a band at a medium sized venue (The Mystic in Petaluma, CA) and this lens performed beautifully. Great range, auto-focus was right on (assuming subject is centered), even considering insane light show and LED screen behind the performers. It's light and handy. I even used it on my shoulder rig for awhile and was surprised how much I liked it.
