Baritone Guitar Shootout

We have used SEVERAL brands of omni headset mics. These and the DPA mics topped the list, in a shootout of several mics, topped the list in quality and clarity. All I use at this point are these mics. They are cheap, easy to repair, and sound great!

The hinge is solid and well built and the board itself is very well designed. Used for the first last during the scifi film shootout here in Roswell and after so many claps from newbie 2nd ACs that don't respect other people's equipment its still going strong.

I found a USB interface shootout online, and listened to the recorded samples for multiple units. I really liked the sound of this SSL and had heard good things about the Black Lion Audio Revolution, so I ordered them both to compare. I ended up preferring the sound of the SSL. The Black Lion sounded oversaturated to me while the SSL was more my style: an honest sound, without being clinical. I like it without the 4k setting, but that's a nice option to have, and the RCA outputs are actually perfect for my amp/monitor setup. The pre-amp gain is clean, though I add a Cloudlifter between my sE ribbon mic and the interface. My Senn mics sounded great through the SSL too. Finally, I love that there are two headphone outs! Would recommend this interface, it's a great value.

I find the optical quality quite outstanding for the price. I did a shootout with my 50/1.8 AIS manual focus nikkor (which I used to find extremely sharp in the film days). This lens had similar sharpness. Note that this lens was practically wide open at f5.6 whereas the MF nikkor was in its sweet spot at f5.6. If you throw in an excellent zoom range and VR (which improves handholding by a couple stops), and this is really very convenient. I compared with the 18-200 zoom, but this really handles much better on the smaller nikon bodies like the d5100. I have heard that the plastic mount on the lens is fragile; keeping my finger crossed. I got the Grey version of this lens; seems fine. I'm happy to save $100.

This bag is good quality, fits my Kala Baritone Uke SCAC-B perfectly and the sides stand up, so it doesn't collapse too flat, offering more protection.

I sing and play a baritone ukulele at senior living centers, many of which have no sound systems at all. The Pyle Pro Amp system is perfect. I have a contact mike on my Ike that I plug into the mike input of the amp. The volume is adjustable and the sound is strong and clear, with no hum or feedback. I use the wireless headset for my voice, whose volume is independently adjustable. It’s a little tricky to adjust the headset for the most natural sound (without howling or a tubby, echoing sound), but once you do, it is stable and sounds fine. I typically run on AC line power, but have run on the recharable battery on occasion, and it worked perfectly throughout a 1.5 hour set. The bass range of output is relatively weak, as might be expected given the size of the unit. But given the features, and performance, it is a tremendous bargain!!!!!

I am a professional opera singer, and I want to capture my bass-baritone voice in a small space without it sounding too crisp and treble heavy. This mic captures my full spectrum with a nice warm natural quality. I'm improving my placement and studio space so I can add reverb to simulate the large halls that are best for operatic voices. The mic is very sensitive and picks up well at 12-18 away without much room noise. It sounds like me when I'm listening. It's connected to a Tascam DR44w recorder with 48v. The build quality is very nice, but I am always gentle with it and mindful of storing it upright because of the fragile ribbon.

I have been recording extensively with this microphone from bass/baritone male voice to female delicate voices, needless to say it's a highly detailed response for this price range, it's flattering in most tones without coloring too much your sound, it's been a joy to use and I seriously considered purchasing other models but couldn't be happier with my choice. Thanks Audio Technica and B&H for outstanding structure and in-store service that made me do a good choice for my needs

I am a Baritone/Tenor hybrid, and this mic is the best I have used for live performance. I use flat EQ on the board and rely on the response curve of the mic, as well as the shape control on a TC Helicon T1 To EQ my voice. I am absolutely thrilled with the noticeable improvement in clarity and definition over the EV N/DYM 767 or the Shure SM57/58. Of course, it costs over twice as much as these mics, but my voice is my meal ticket and this is worth every penny. Plus, the Telefunken M80 is superior to any other dynamic mic I have used at ANY price. It gives me the Hi-Fi qualities of a condenser mic with the Great durability and feedback rejection of a dynamic mic. Buying the gold-plated version was a bit of an indulgence on my part, but it looks gorgeous!
