This MKE600 is replacing my Rode NTG5 as my main on-the-go microphone. It has better sound. It also takes a AA battery if I need that, although I doubt I ever will as I use cinema cameras with phantom power.

So far, this microphone has been a great companion to my Canon t3i. I have used both the LensHopper and the Rode VideoMic Pro, and I have to say that both of them have the same audio quality. But the LensHopper is stronger and will not fall from its shock mount. Plus, you can use a single battery for weeks. The only downsides are that you can't monitor your audio levels (no headphone plugin) or your battery life until it is drained, but for the price you can't complain about that.

I've been using this microphone to record spoken-word for several weeks now and I couldn't be happier with it! I've paired it with an SSL 2 and together they give me outstandingly clean and clear sound. I'm also grateful for the high-pass filter switches because I'm often right up against the included pop-filter for subtle sounds and would otherwise be fighting the proximity effect. The XLR cable included is generously long -- to a fault if you're using it at a desk -- and I was glad to have a more appropriate cable on hand. The microphone itself apparently weights 860g (almost 2lbs); I'm using it with the Rode PSA1 boom arm which can handle the weight but I bet cheaper arms would struggle with it. I would caution you, however, that this microphone does need phantom power and while this isn't a problem in the studio it does mean you might have difficulty using it on location because there is no built-in battery-power option (my Rode NTG-2 also needs phantom power but has a battery-power option for when you're in the field). All said, this is the perfect microphone for me: it's a step up but still economical and I am more than happy with the quality.
