More than 30 years ago, I purchased a 3036 from B&H, mainly on the advice of the sales person. It arrived, and I knew, on the spot, that this was going to be a well-used tool for my studio and site work. I wasn't disappointed. It served me faithfully for almost 30 years, and I sold it, along with my other gear when I switched to digital. I lightened my tripods, but sometimes missed the 3036 when it came to rock solid stability, especially with long lenses. When I started shooting film again, I started back into medium and large format photography, my 055 Manfrotto and my older 3021 just didn't seem sturdy enough. I found a good used 3051, and it's also a great tripod, but I was at my local used dealer this past week, and he had taken in a 475B from someone who thought it was too heavy. I gobbled it up in a flash. I got it home, and immediately attached my 3038 head, and it's going out for use with my Hasselblad, Cambo, and Mamiya cameras. The only thing I miss on the 475B is the locking center post elevator of the old 3036. Other than that, this is an outstanding successor.
