Wow what a game changer. The Canon 1DX Mark II was already a great camera but the 1DX Mark III goes even farther. The focus is much better and the low light is better then the 20 frames a second mirror up is like having a mirrorless camera. I love that it came with a 64gb card and plan to get a larger card in the near future, because they are now cheap...but if you are considering this camera...make the jump, take a leap of faith....you won’t be disappointed. 5 |

After reading a few reviews about this camera written by people that probably shouldn't have purchased it...because they clearly didn't know how to handle a camera, I decided it was time to write my own. I make my living with my camera equipment. Two years ago, after years of using 5D, 6D, and 7D cameras, I felt it was time to make the jump to the 1DX Mark II. I was informed that 2017 would be a full race schedule for me and I wanted to step up my game. I figured that if the majority of my income is now coming from motorsports, I should buy the 1DX. From day one of owning this camera, it was an exceptional performer and met all expectations when moving to the best camera model Canon has to offer. The viewfinder, grip, build, viewfinder - it all spoils you! Once you've shot with this, the 5D Mark IV feels like a much cheaper camera...and 5D is a great professional camera. I've seen some people comment on issues they've had with the camera. Much of those "issues" can be explained away from ignorance or unrealistic expectations. But I know that I haven't had any issues with the camera other than an erratic occurrence when using the 580EX II flash where it will lock into firing like a machine gun and not stop until you pull the battery...it was odd and has happened only three times in two years. But this camera has excellent dynamic range in RAW files, reliable and responsive autofocus that works in hardly any light and in heavily backlit situations. I love this camera and I'm honored to be able to afford one and justify the need for my work. 5 |

As much as I love my Canon 1DX Mark II, I love this camera even more! The weight, the features, the ease of use...all are really solid. 5 |

At this price level you would expect a camera to be very good and the 1DX Mark III doesn't disappoint. I don't do much video so won't comment on that although from what I've read it is superb in that respect. From a still photography perspective I can note several enhancements over the Mark II. First though, I'll note that much of the control layout, menus, etc. are unchanged so a previous 1DX user will have a very easy learning curve. It also maintains the previous versions rock solid build and quality feel. Although the megapixel count is about the same I find the images to look slightly sharper. There also appears to be a bit less noise at higher ISO's. The auto-focus is quicker and more accurate and the continuous shooting is faster. I'm sure many of you are more tech savvy than I am, but I would make a few observations that might be helpful to some. First, I found that the camera and card reader have a USB 3.1 Type A connection while my PC, although just two years old, only has a USB Type C input. So the first thing I had to do before downloading any photos was to buy an adapter cord. It wasn't hard to find and cost under $30. Lastly, I discovered that Photoshop Elements doesn't yet support the CR3 raw file format. First I used Canon Digital Professional 4 but found the workflow slow and the features lacking. Next, I tried the free Adobe software to convert the CR3 files to DNG format which Elements would open, but found that the images seemed to lose some quality. I finally ended up getting Capture One 20.0.4 and, although I still have some learning to do, I am very happy with it. It opens the CR3 files and has powerful editing capability. I then export them as tiff files. Right now I'm still doing some final editing in Elements as I like some of the tools. 5 |
