Best Digital Lomography Camera

For the last few years I've been delving into the history of photography and lens design, and have been fascinated by the work of contemporary photographers like Sally Mann who purposefully seek out ancient glass of questionable origin to give their work a timeless aura, far removed from the pristine clarity of modern lens. I was tempted by Lomography's Petzval lenses, but put off by the retro look (I mean come on, it's attached to a digital camera, not a grand old Deardorff) and to some degree the cost. Then the Twist 60 came along: unobtrusive, modest, discreet -- and half the price. In fact, the cost of the Twist 60 was so low, I wasn't sure I could take it seriously. But, on the other hand, is was worth the gamble, and if I hated it I knew B&H would graciously take it back without a murmur. The lens seems tough, well-made and, I hope, durable. And while the main-attraction Petzval-style swirl is a definite throwback, everything else about the lens -- clarity, color, contrast, etc. -- seems clean and modern. The best of both worlds! So, after a couple of weeks of shooting with it on a Nikon D800 and D700, I am quite charmed! The aperture settings offer subtle control of swirl and DOF, which I am going to be sorting out for some time, but it is surprisingly responsive. The results I've had so far have made me very happy -- dead sharp focal plane (as long as you hit it), dreamy bokeh swirl, charming vignetting (assuming you like that kind of thing), and wonderful rich color rendition. The 60mm focal length is fine for what it is, though I'd be very happy if Lensbaby came out with something like an 85 to compete with the longer Lomography lens. Of course, it isn't the easiest thing to manually focus with a modern digital camera with no split screen or other prehistoric focusing aid. And my prehistoric eyes are not always up to the task. Still I'd say the pros vastly outweigh the cons, and this is a lens that will offer you some unique creative opportunities.
