Best Enterprise Wireless Router

The Dream router is a great product that I recommend to many of my clients that want a home network with all the features of an enterprise. This product makes it so easy to setup, manage and monitor your network. Ubiquiti makes a solid product. I have these gateways pen-tested every year and they hold up well.

I work with enterprise level equipment but wanted an affordable controller/router for my home. This was a great choice. The ability to create multiple VLANS and SSIDs in order to separate my IoT devices from my main network was important to me, and Ubiquiti does that and much more.

The EdgeRouterX provides enterprise features including gigabit Ethernet, VLANs, DNS forwarding, a DHCP server and even a VPN server for your small home network at a consumer price. I paired mine with an Ubiquiti wireless access point for a complete home networking solution. The EdgeRouter X even provides PoE pass through to power my access point (note: this is not negotiated PoE, so you must make sure any device you will connect to port 4 on the router is compatible with pass through PoE before enabling the feature on the router).

Full fledged routing. Granted it will only forward 500mbps, but I challenge you to find another enterprise class router for even close to this price. None of them will forward any more traffic over the routed ports than the ER-X.

For starters, this is not a plug and play router. If you are looking for plug and play, then you might want to consider a different product. This is more or less an enterprise router. With that being said, there are multiple resources and videos online to help set it up if you aren’t familiar with networking. It has many incredible features especially for its size and price point. Simply put, it does its job extremely well. I highly recommend it.

I got fed up with my other wireless routers and decided to give this enterprise grade access point a try. It was well worth it. Initially I had the concern that I had to mount it on the ceiling, but it also worked fine and looked good enough on top of a desk. The performance is very good, and it covers my entire house easily. The only downside is that I had to install their software to configure the access point. The installation didnt go well on Linux, so I had to use a Windows machine. The software is not very easy to navigate, but anyone with enough technical knowledge should be able to figure it out. Important note - this is a wireless access point, you have to have a router in order to use it at home or in your office. Otherwise you wont be able to use it.

An excellent AP and feature packed for the price. I work with enterprise wireless professionally and these APs have a lot of the features. Setup wizard had unit running in a minute.
