Best Mirrorless Camera For African Safari

I bought this for my African Safari vacation in 2019. I wanted to bring my a99ii because of the sensor power but then thought I had to switch lenses and the extra weight. I was dead set on the a99ii for 6 months but the last month I said I’m going to do the RX10m4 because of the convenience. I’m so glad I did!!! The rx10m4 got so many shots from close (24mm) one second to having to zoom to 300mm+. I wouldn’t have been able to get the shots and video that I got without it. If you’re going on a nature hike, vacation, Safari, etc get this camera. I got a Ewa Marine case for my a99ii and it fit my rx10 and it went shark cage diving. This is the absolute best overall, all in one, do it all camera. I will gladly keep updating when I have to. It’s such a great camera and worth every single penny!!!

I just returned from an African safari and used used this pouch, and its double-sided twin, for spare camera batteries. My Fujifilm NP-w126 batteries fit perfectly and I am very happy with the product.

I will be using the binoculars on an African safari. There are very light, but well built. The viewing is comfortable.

Protects the lens against dust and muck when on an African safari and is easier to clean the filter than the lens.

This is a perfect charger to carry with you especially when you do not have electricity avaiable (such as an African Safari) but you do have a vehicle that can accept the charger. Can't go wrong with this one.

These binoculars were wonderful on our African safari! I have used them for bird watching at home, and general usage in nature. They are sharp, easy to adjust, light weight and don't cost an arm and a leg.

I took this converter to extend the range of my 60 - 250mm lens on an African safari. It performed flawlessly. Just as sharp as the lens itself. Highly recommended.

I chose my Vortex Fury binox in 2009 for viewing animals on an African safari after the store owner said they were the best for low light, and the ones he'd take. They were magnificent then and always, but fourteen years later my beloved Furies are battered, cracked and - from the latest fumble - the right eyepiece no longer dialed back in. I called Vortex for repair advice and was dumbfounded to learn of their essentially bulletproof-lifetime-no-receipt-needed warranty. I mailed them off to Vortex and today a brand-new in-the-box pair of Vipers arrived! I can hardly believe my luck. Not only the best binox ever. The best warranty ever.

I used this bag on my african safari tour. The way I packed it I had 1DX mark ii body, 7 D mark ii, 1x speedlite 600, 100mm macro, 16:35mm, 100-400, 1.4 teleconverter, 2x teleconverter, extension tube, 5” on camera monitor, 6 extra batteries, raincoat, RRS tripod on side, all my chargers for my cameras, cables, 15” MacBook and a 600mm lens on top of the bag attached on the handle but it’s was so smooth at airport. It was heavy when you lift it up and pushing it on four wheels was like I was pushing an egg. This is the best travel bag I have owned. I have think tank limo but think tank photo airport roller Derby is just unbeatable. I wish I could show pictures here.

I bought this for a photo safari in Botswana and Zambia followed by another safari in Kruger NP and weeks in So. Africa. In the southern African parks, the tours use open-sided tour vehicles rather than pop-tops as in East Africa, so beanbags are NOT a good solution, and a monopod is generally the best option. For the Botswana/Zambia part of the trip where weight was limited I took just the monopod. Because I was using a relatively heavy Canon 7D + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC, I unscrewed the ballhead that comes with the tripod and used Really Right Stuff's monopod head, and the combination worked great. For the South African portion of my trip where I was outside the vehicle more in Rest Camps and picnic areas, I reassembled the tripod with the kit ballhead. I used the tripod mainly with a spotting scope, but on occasion I did mount my big DSLR lens on the ballhead ... carefully and it worked better than I expected, providing a pretty secure mount (though not one I would wish to use routinely). The versatility of the scope, its light weight and compact size, and the rigidity it provided were all very pleasant surprises, even compared with my huge Gitzo carbon fiber tripod.
