I bought this because I sometimes use my R5 for astro photography, which requires very long exposures at a static location and can quickly drain a battery. It plugs into the USB port on the camera and when the camera is on it becomes the camera's power source (the battery symbol in the viewfinder is grayed out). It also charges the camera's battery when the camera is turned off. Using it will extend the life of (expensive) batteries by keeping them from stacking up numerous charge cycles in situations where it is practical to plug in your camera. 5 |
