Best Mxl Microphone For Home Recording Studio

This microphone has gotten me through so much learning. When I first started recording I was using an Avid Recording Studio mixer with only a single XLR input. So one microphone. (Until I figured out how to run another mic through the guitar jack.) I got the MXL 990 and I feel like I can keep recording with it for a long time. For starters, it's pretty durable. I haven't spiked it against the ground but it's taken some falls and still ticks. As for quality? There's definitely better mics out there. Better tone, pickup, all sorts of things. But I'd be lying if I didn't say this is a great mic to take around the block. While I'm not completely green, I'm at least blue-green. So anything fancier would be completely wasted on me. And all I really want is for the voice to be clear and warm. I'm recording a podcast with myself and a single guest. No instruments. Nothing fancy. And honestly: this mic does everything I want without fighting me too hard. I would definitely point it right and try to insulate yourself a bit. But the difference between this and my Shure SM58 is huge. I've since switched to a Zoom H6 for my mixer (whew). Now I can get more people in on my records if I need to. But when I had the chance to get different mics I went in for 3 more MXL 990s. That's how reliable they are. I may graduate from them someday, but for what I need to do and where I'm at, they're perfect. 5 |
The bottom line. | 2024-05-16 08:11:38 |
I purchased this microphone to use in a home recording studio to record myself for the purposes of practice and make audition tapes. So far it has accurately captured the sound my instrument (double bass, acoustic guitar). After reading a lot of reviews I chose this microphone because it seemed to represent a good value and would be an inexpensive microphone to invest it while I learned some recording basics and figured out my DAW. I don't have very much experience as an engineer, but I do have years of experience in the studio as a professional musician, so while I can not compare it to many other microphones, I can say I am pleased with the sound I am getting in my humble little studio, especially for the price. If you are like me, on a budget and not really sure where to start with condenser mics you can't go wrong with the MCA SP1. Good value. 5 |

Very solidly built microphone. You really can't go wrong with these, as they can suit everything ranging from home studio recording to podcast recording to skyping with friends. I would highly recommend a pop filter as well as a shock mount. Also, the stand is quite flimsy and I wouldn't trust it. 5 |

I'm new to home recording, and the MXL v67g large-diaphragm condenser mic is perfect for my vocal recording needs. My budget for this mic was about $100, and at $, the v67g fit the bill nicely. This mic was consistently recommended to me over similar choices as the Rode NT1-A, and I'm confident I've made the right choice. My vocal recordings (I'm a bass) have a warm, clear, even tone. Plus, the thing is beautiful, with a gold grill and all-around pro-looking design. It comes with a handy carrying case to keep harmful dust out. For around $100, I don't think you'll find a better studio mic for vocals. Get it now! 5 |

When setting up my home studio for voice over work, I did a lot of research before settling on this mic. The MXL V67G has a big, warm sound that's perfect for commercial work and audiobooks. I also have an EV RE20, but I prefer the V67G hands down. My 'mic snob' VO friends kept trying to talk me out of the V67G, but to my ears the V67G sounds every bit as impressive, responsive, and warm as other more expensive mics. If you're building a home voice over studio from scratch, I highly recommend the MXL V67G as your main, work-horse mic. It doesn't get any better than this. The only cons with the V67G is that the adaptor is a bit flimsy, and the gold mesh is thin and easily bent. 5 |

I am an independent musician and when I am NOT recording at a professional studio, I have a set-up at home to do rough drafts/etc. I have the MXL Mic Mate Pro hooked up to my MXL microphone. This Mic Mate Pro provides phantom power & connects directly to my macbook. No reason to have a weak tube pre-amp & millions of feet of XLR cords anymore. PROS: Super Easy Set Up (I can plug it in & record), Super Light Weight (easy to travel with, seeing how I use a macbook, I might record at home, a friend's house, a vacant warehouse, etc), Headphone & Gain Controls directly on the piece (this is a HUGE improvement compared to other XLR/USB converters, including other MXL products), Sound is super clean and sometimes I will record vocals at home to have them mixed and mastered at a professional studio - This saves me money, as I do not need to pay to record my vocals and just have the mixing/mastering which is going to be time I'd be paying for normally anyway. CONS: I feel like the Headphone Volume should be able to go a little louder. I have to control that on Adobe Audition (the program I record in) if I need it to go louder than what is capable on tool itself. 5 |
