Best Sony Camera For Filmmaking

I have been using the Rokinon with my Sony a7s for narrative filmmaking. It's a beautiful lens for character's in nature. It has allowed me to capture the actor's performance while simultaneously showing a wide range of view. The lens can shoot at 2 f stops which gives beautiful depth of field. For $, you can't beat the professional quality that a prime lens like this provides. Using this lens on a Ronin steadicam provides a look that closely resembles The Revenant. The only thing that I wish the lens could provide is a power connection to the camera. The aperture has to be manually adjusted and doesn't connect with the camera. While this could be a major problem for some photographers/filmmakers, it's a small issue that can easily be worked around. I would highly recommend this lens to any filmmaker who wants to capture beautiful wide angles on a low budget.

Best bang for your buck filmmaking camera out there. If you know how to use these correctly, the image you'll get is unmatchable for the price point. I got three for our style of work and they've been fantastic. The internal ND filters, the two mini-XLRs, the internal RAW recording, the inclusion of shutter angle, the variety of storage options, and the easy-to-control user interface make these Pockets untouchable at this price point. If you want autofocus and low-light performance, get a Sony. Otherwise, learn to use focus peaking and how to light correctly, and you'll make magic happen, baby.
