A great pair of speakers. Sounds really good, specially the bass.

I was upgrading from a small cheap pair of speakers, and looking for something that had some solid bass without sounding boxy. The AugioEngine's are fantastic. They sound great, full of bass and very clear and crisp. Powerful too. Very happy with them. My set up is somewhat odd. A Mac going to a Denon receiver view NuForce DAC. Turntable into the same receiver. Using the RECORD OUT from the Denon to go into the AudioEngines. Works fine, thought it makes me laugh that when i'm listening to audio from the Mac I have about 5 different places to adjust the volume! The sub-woofer might be a nice addition, but so far I don't see really needing it.

Great pair of speakers. I thought I was going to miss having a sub because of downsizing but the bass sound quality is there! Also easy set up!!

I have two pair that are in a covered outdoor room that is 16 x 20 in size. The 251's use of two tweeters angled provides a wide sound field creating a great result for outdoor use. The sound is excellent even at low volume making it easy for my guests to both enjoy it and not have to talk over the music. One pair is installed high in the corner surrounded by wood which amplifies the bass. The other pair is surrounded by just air. Where they are installed makes a big difference as my two pairs sound very different when isolated offering an obvious lesson in acoustics. I use a pair of outdoor volume switches to balance them. I previously had them in another house where one pair were installed high covering a back yard and flooded a large area with sound. These speakers can play loud if need be. My experience with them in three different locations gives me a unique perspective in recommending them and attesting to there versatility . Few outdoor speakers will provide satisfying bass but if you have a choice of where to install, using acoustic common sense can aid in improving the bass. Mounted on wood vs. brick will change the sound, in corners vs open air.....etc. This is true with all speaker installations. Speaker reviews are subjective based on personal preference and expectations. These speakers are not bass monsters and their indirect tweeter array provides a wide sound that produces little fatigue. Auditioning any outdoor speaker outside of its actual installation is nearly a useless exercise. This model has now been around at least 15 years and obviously has been a good seller for Bose. I can say over the 13 years I have owned them, these speakers are durable, versatile and lived up to expectations at the premium price.

I bought this couple of weeks back to pair with Soundbar 500 and Bass Module 500. I’m in love with these speakers. It’s definitely better than the normal surround speakers. I’m absolutely enjoying it. The only grouse I have with these speakers is with the adapter. The tiny screws that hold the wires from the wireless receiver are very delicate. One of the screw was already clipped when I opened it out of the box and hence was unusable. I immediately reported it to the customer care and they were kind enough to ship me spare adapters. I suggest Bose to make these screws more rugged so that it won’t get damaged so easily. Other than this, they are flawless set of speakers. Even though they are advertised to be paired with 700 series, they work very well with 500 series.

These are my first pair of bookshelf speakers for our living room entertainment center. I'm using the Sony STR-DH190 Stereo Receiver and they sound really great. I was worried about bass and anticipating getting a sub to fill out the bass, but I was pleasantly surprised with a very present bass sound from these speakers. We have a fairly large living room and our system has no problem filling the space with sound. These are a great choice for someone looking for good sound on a relatively low budget.

Great sounding speakers with enough bass. Better than a soundbar. Very simple and easy to pair up with your Roku TV.

I was in need for yet another pair of speakers. I really didn't need much for performance and so I limited my budget for this purchase. I think it would only be fair to include what else is feeding them. I have them hooked up to an older Teac reference series A-H300 amplifier and feeding into that is Marantz NA7004 media player, A Denon DN-C640 CD - network streamer and a Sony MDS-JB920 Minidisc deck. I am quite impressed with clarity and also how much bass can be thrown for this small package. I mean, don't expect these to throw as much bass as a subwoofer or enclosures with 10 to 12 woofers, but this surprised me on how much they could. I paid list price for these which is, at this time of writing, $199/pair. Bottom line is, if I needed another pair of bookshelf speakers, I would think twice and just purchase these again.

I can comfortably say that my Fives were probably the only things that helped me keep my sanity while being locked indoors. As someone who loves listening to music, I thought buying bigger speakers meant a better listening experience. I should have known that with a 12-foot by 10-foot bedroom, I wasn't going to get amazing sound out of the box. I honestly thought I was duped at first because there was little to no bass, and the mids sounded jumbled. It wasn't until I moved into my new, much larger apartment that I unlocked somewhat of the full potential of the speakers. So if you live in a smaller space, maybe try a pair of Ones with a sub or go for a single Five. One major drawback is they don't connect to a common Wi-Fi for the whole building, so you must purchase a router. This makes the speakers obsolete without private Wi-Fi. As for the pros, these speakers blow everything else I have heard (in this budget range) out of the water. At 64 percent of the max volume, the pair shakes up a 30-foot by 40-foot apartment through walls and doors. I listen to a wide variety of music. Still, most of my playlists are bass-heavy, and I love hearing a nice warm resonating bump. Out of the box, the experience was underwhelming, but once you put the bass EQ to 10 and nudge the treble EQ up to 4, they sound phenomenal. My only regret with purchasing the pair of Fives is that I didn't get the Sonos Subwoofer with them. Any normal person would be happy with just a pair. But I want to FEEL my music, and I think the Sub would elevate the system to another level. It wasn't in my budget, but I hope to catch a break soon and afford the Sub. I probably missed a whole bunch of things in my review, but my concluding remarks are to go for it and purchase the Sonos Five. If you have the money, go for the pair, and if you're loaded, splurge for a pair with a sub.

I was looking for an amp with about 100W per channel to drive a pair of bookshelf speakers. I also wanted bass, treble, balance, and loudness adjustments on the amp's face, not adjustments through the remote. This amp is exactly what I was looking for!
