In my project studio I record various acoustic instruments such as guitar, upright bass and violin. I also record vocals and various hand percussion. I have traditionally used small condensers such as Neumann KM 184's and AKG C451-B's but was craving the sound that only a large diaphragm can deliver. I love AKG products especially those built in Vienna. So far have only used the 214 on vocals, acoustic guitar and middle eastern percussion and it more than met my expectations. I love the AKG sound. To me AKG's are not as transparent as Neumann BUT that is what I dig about it..it brings a bit of color and an openness. At the price point..this is a must have mic..you can never go wrong with AKG

Purchased in 1999 this mic still works after all these years. It didn't get much use, as I only used it to record acoustic guitar. Nevertheless, it can do a lot more than just acoustic recording. Build quality is great, sound is excellent, a wide dynamic range, and frequency response. With small condensers mic placement is critical, and the NT3 is a lot more forgiving than my AKG C1000s.

I use the mic to record vocals and acoustic guitar in my home studio. I find it clear and responsive across all frequencies, with little feedback. It feels solid and comes with a handy carry pouch for traveling. Overall, great value mic.

I used the Fat Head to record my latest composition, a Jazz acoustic guitar duet. The sound was very warm, like you would expect from vintage equipment. I have not found anything not to like about this microphone yet.

Ive been used to record guitar, acoustic guitar, bass, vocals in my studio and the sound its always great, warm and fat in all situations. I really like to have a Tube Preamp with EQ and Compressor, I can setup the whole tone using this avalon.

I use this mic to record acoustic guitar + vocals. It has some very simple and effective settings, with great sound production. If you are going to be working close to the mic, I suggest a pop filter!

I use this mic to record acoustic guitar because of the way it picks up percussive elements of picking. So its uses go beyond just miking drums.

I have been using this mic to record acoustic guitar. On rhythm tracks I set it up on a stand about 24-30 away from the guitar, while using a Shure KSM137 at the sound hole, recoding two tracks at the same time. The room I am recording in is quite large with high ceilings, so the acoustics of the room are quite good for this type of set up. On finger picking or more lead type tracks. I move it closer in, pointed toward the bridge. In both roles the sound capture of the mic is neutral to a bit warm. It is doing exactly what I wanted to. Can't ask for more than that. Solidly built. I don't think you will get a better mic for the price. Of course B&H service is always excellent.
