Big Vertical Monitor

I shoot a lot of vertical shots, as well as use big lenses, so the grip is a definite help for ergonomics.

Perfect for people with big hands. Had one week of marathon 12 hour days. I didn’t notice it. Before I added this grip, I noticed right away that my had would cramp and I found it difficult to manage shooting with the 70-200 2.8 EF - I wanted to keep this camera as small as possible and this a solved me having to use a battery grip. Although I did miss having a vertical release button on a fashion shoot where 85 percent of the images I shot were vertical. It didn’t take up much more room in my already over stuffed bag.

The Genie 2 is a big step up from the Genie 1 linear. The Genie 2 is powerful and can do straight vertical lifts with DSLR cameras and I've mounted some pretty big lenses on inclines. The app is great to use and the accuracy of step and shoot or continuous movement is excellent. This unit is much faster than Genie 1 and no more slipping rope on inclines. Battery holds up a long time even operating out in the cold.

I use one for gripping two arms together perpendicularly, then mount two mics for stereo on the vertical rod. The other I use to mount a shotgun mic holder. The mechanism is second to none for tightening and looseneing. The handle is nice and big for ease of use, but not too big that it gets in the way. Just right.

A similar design, but without the panning aspect, by a big name US company sells for much more and tends to flop when the tension is loosened in the vertical plane. This one doesn't flop and has the added benefit of motion in two planes. It can holds a Gimbel attachment, such as a sidekick, if one wants even smoother vertical motion, but without one it works adequately and with significantly less weight and bulk. This and Sigma's version without the panning device (which sells for a little less, is somewhat shorter, and lighter) seem to me to be the best choices for a monopod by combining lightness of weight and functionality. (The only negative about these heads is that the tops are not grooved on either side of the center to allow for more back and forth movement of plates, as one gets with true Arca Swiss designs.)

I have big hands :-) the vertical grip not only provide a place for 2 batteries it also give you a place to hold the camera more comfortably and the duplicated buttons for vertical shooting are great! I was shooting most of my digital era on Canon 1D series so i'm accustomed to a vertical grip. well built!

This thing is big. So big in fact, that you can't hold it flat without it drooping or having someone else hold it. I rarely use it horizontally though (mostly vertical or on an angle), so it isn't normally an issue. If you want to bounce some light for portraits, products, etc, you can't go wrong here. No color casts. It is made with high-quality construction, and the bag is heavy duty as well. Best reflector brand out there by far.

The big con here is the price, it is a pricey case. That aside, this is the best case I have ever had the pleasure of building in. The modularity of it is best in class and the airflow is great. I have been achieving better temperatures with this case than any other, and on top of that it has such a sleek look to it and the front mesh just begs to be displayed. I don't regret this purchase at all, if you plan on vertical mounting your GPU though I would buy the separate vertical mounting kit as it allows you to mount farther away from the side of the case. The tool-less access to the side panels is also very ingenious. My regret is not getting the version with a side glass panel, this was a personal choice because I move somewhat frequently and the thought of moving a glass panel around didn't sit well with me. If you are considering this case I say go for it.

They are big! Works as anticipated. Minor annoyance that there are no holes drilled on the vertical center line.

I shoot portrait/vertical a lot, if you have big hands (or hands at all) the vertical grip is a must. The extra battery is good for all day shooting and the start-up is faster that it was with my previous a7R models that I've owned.
