Simple to use, extremely effective, especially on colour films. Not quite as good with black and white films as the machine tries to brighten the dark sections - so a 'fade to black' becomes a 'fade to grey'! Really happy with my purchase and enjoying using it!

When I was considering buying this lens I was concerned that it would be too specialized to get much useand that the photos would be a bit too artificial looking for my taste. I needn't have worried. I'm now more inspired to look around for photographic opportunities than I've been for a very long time. The spherical distortion that is a characteristic of fisheye lenses is especially effective with images that have strong shapes and lines. Much like what I used to look for when I was shooting primarily in black & white. In fact it is inspiring me to start shooting in black & white again. The build quality exceeded my expectations. It fits well on my Panasonic G7 and the aperture and focus rings operate very smoothly. I'm used to manual focus and exposure so the lack of automatic functions on this lens was of no concern to me. It took me a few minutes to figure out how to set up my camera to use the lens. This is what I use: - Shoot w/o lens - ON - Focus peaking - ON - MF Assist - AF mode button (used to switch on the enlarged view) - Manual focus - Aperture priority or manual exposure Focus with the lens wide open - with the enlarged focus area and the focus peaking it is very easy to see what is in focus. Stop the lens down a couple of stops and everything will be in focus unless you are very close to your subject. Minimum focus distance is 9 cm (4 ")! I'm looking forward to playing around with some extreme close up shots. The image quality is very good. I've got no regrets about buying this lens and the service from B&H was great, as usual.

I like when people upload photographs from lenses so I thought I'd add one for this lens. Photo shot with Leica 240mp iso 200 f1.2 1/125 handheld over my head, center-weighted classic metering, manual focused using live view with the red highlights selected. I have only had the lens a couple of days and I like it. No complaints so far. I don't go crazy with the technical stuff so I can't help you there. Focusing wheel is smooth, with nice resistance and tactile feel, aperture wheel has firm stops but between those stops there is not much resistance. Lens is beefy, but not too beefy considering it is f1.2. I don't have a hood for it. The filter ring is 52mm, which is a rare size, however, I have some old color filters from my Canon FD days that I will be able to resurrect for black and white. I like that. No coded data. I've shot with auto lens detect, manual set to various lens choices on the 240, and lens detect off. I can't notice anything different, but I didn't really bother to examine too deeply. I purchased this lens for it's 1.2 aperture in 35mm focal length because A) Leica doesn't make one; B) If Leica did make one, it would be $15,000; C) I have a 35mm Summicron f/2 and not a Summilux f/1.4; D) The Summilux is $6,000; E) I have a Summicron f/2; F) I figured this Voigtlander lens had to be as good or better than any Canon FD lens that I have ever used when I was much younger (except for the Canon FD 85mm 1.2L which I still own). If you find beautiful light, your photo will be nice. Also, having taken some black and white test shots, this lens is really going to be nice for low light black and white photography.
