I use my 2017 iMac for music composition and recording. I wanted to connect a fast USB 3.0/Lightning hard drive to be online with the iMac all the time to use as a dedicated hard drive for music recording. I have a USB audio interface and MIDI keyboard controller connected all the time to the iMac and I found that the four iMac USB host ports were completely occupied when doing a Time Machine backup to another USB 3.0 external hard drive, so I wanted to move my dedicated music hard drive (G-Technology G Drive Mobile 1 TB USB 3.0/Lightning drive) to a Lightning 3 port on the iMac. I wanted to utilize a Lightning 3 port and also to free up a USB 3.0 host port. The Apple Thunderbolt 3 Male to Thunderbolt 2 Female Adapter allows me to do just that. The adapter powers the Lightning drive and provides fast I/O with no fuss. 5 |
