I play in an array of bands (mostly Jazz ensembles). We compared this recorder to several others using the internal xy microphones. The consensus was that compared to the other recorders by Roland, Tascam and Olympus, that we owned, the Zoom's internal mics produced a smoother, fuller sound with excellent detail and imaging. The other recorders did a good job but the recordings had a slightly thinner sound quality. The ability to record up to 6 inputs was not compared. The color display is clear and easy to read and the recorder has a logical menu structure. The screen is small but the trade off is the presence of analog controls for basic functions which is worth the trade off. The H6 serves as a digitial interface for 6 channels as well as a recorder which is a nice bonus. The Gray model comes with 2 microphones and a case where the black recorder, which is identical, omits the case and second microphone in exchange for the black finish. I do recommend the H6 recorder.

I use it with a Black Magic with monitor, recorder and a Zacuto rig with Redrock Micro follow focus, 12 volt pag batteries. The head is smooth and the balance can be easily performed. The gear is solid enough for what is is used for, light to carry and can be quickly installed. The bubble with inner light is a plus.

This is amazing recorder and there’s seem to be no other like this. Go buy it now since “apparently” Zoom is goin to discontinue the h6 gray version and start selling more on the black version which it costs more and you get less extra stuff in the package. Although the black one looks nice you get less stuff in the box. They gray one you get a lot of items inside the box and a carrying case. I heard some people say the gray one rubbery sides of the recorders gets sticky after a while so I just bought this so I won’t know until a while. But the black one is a sold plastic material all around it won’t seem to get sticky after a few years of use unlike the gray. I guess we’ll find out.

We use this Tascam DR-10 as a backup recorder for narrative short-film shoots. It's easy to conceal on the talent given it's small size, and the sound quality is amazing for the price. The range of features available is also impressive, as is the easy to see (and read) screen. On the occasion we use it for interviews, the white lav is a nice option to attach to clothing as opposed to the ubiquitous black lav. (We purchased an additional black lav for those occasions when we needed one - the colour of the recorder is immaterial since it's never seen by the camera.

I have had both the Black version and prior H6 recorder. Both appear to be identical except for the finish. Sonically the recorder performs very well for me, producing low noise, high fidelity live recordings. I have the MS mic as well as the cardiod mic and the XLR adapter and have indeed used 6 microphones for ensemble recording. I had no issues making this work but the xlr wires/connectors are a bit physically awkward routing into a device this size. If you need to use additional microphones, I certainly recommend this recorder.
