Blackmagic Hyperdeck Studio Blinking Record Light

My go-to standard for recorders. I have used other rack-mounted recorders like the Blackmagic HyperDeck Studio and the Aja KiPro Rack outshines them all. My older KiPro is still going strong from 2012!

I connect the component output from my Canon XHA1 through the mini converter to the Blackmagic Hyperdeck shuttle. This allows me to record directly to hard drives and eliminates the time involved in tape capture. The quality is also improved. I have been using the Hyperdeck with my Canon XHG1 which has the SDI ouput. The converter allows the use with the A1 model. This speeds up workflow. Default setting were perfect for me and the ability to input digital or analog audio fits with my practice where I feed all cameras identical audio from a distribution amp while recording master audio on an Allen and Heath ICE 16.

Have this set up in External enclosure, as a Raid-1. Use it to archive videos from HyperDeck Studio Pro. With eSata, it takes about 30 minutes for 230GB to back up.

I was a bit sceptical at first as I had no knowledge of Z-CAM E2. I was actually looking to purchase the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4k which is always on back order. I ended up giving the Z Cam E2 a try and I must say that I love it. I previously owned Sony FS5, Sony A7III, and still on Fuji XT3. The recording in this camera is limitless. To be able to record 4K 120 (no croping) its a beast. Being able to record directly to SSD using USB C instead of expensive CFAST 2.0 is simple awesome. This means no need for Atomos Ninja recorders. Once Zraw becomes available it will know everthing esle out the ball park. it's MFT but better then my Sony FS5 in low light situations. The picture quality and recording options are great. The only con are the placements of the record buttons and battery. The autofocus is lacking but it does work in decent light situation. Blackmagic Pocket 4k does not have any autofocus period. When paired with the Portkeys BM5, Smallrig Cage and Sandisk SSD your good to go.

This has become my favorite HyperDeck for quick playback.

Rather than a blinking light, this visually depicts the status of charge. I like this much better than the rest.
