Blacks Are Too Dark Monitor Alienware

This monitor is beautiful, and thankfully it has no dead pixels and the backlight glow isn't bad. The pixel quality is excellent, the color representation is excellent, the full ergonomics are great. This monitor has it all. I used other websites to recommend the settings, but overall I changed very little other than some basic color calibration. Playing games I see no ghosting, or stuttering, or any weird effects. This is the smoothest image I've seen yet. I was worried because a friend had a viewsonic and he had some significant overshooting. But this monitor is sooo smooth. Just make sure to set your Windows refresh rate to match the monitor's. Compared to my Asus laptop, the blacks are blacker, which is nice. IPS monitors are infamous for the blacks, but this monitor is surprisingly dark. Other websites have confirmed this as well, and I noticed the difference. It doesn't compete with VA panels, but I'm not a fan of them. I only have one complaint about this monitor: it's bright. I primarily am on the computer at night in a dark room. Without using dark mode on every app and website, pure white backgrounds are not fun on the eyes. In games, I don't have this problem, but writing in Google Docs requires a squint. So I downloaded a screen dimming app to solve the problem. Just wish the monitor had lower brightness settings. 5 |

I was concerned choosing a IPS panel over a VA panel, because our living room TV is an OLED and I'm a huge fan of inky dark blacks. But 4k @ 32 inches requires you to sit pretty close, and the viewing angles on a VA panel are just too bad for that (major color degradation at edges) and I can't tolerate the distortion from curved screens. Turns out my fears were unwarranted! With the proper settings (Black Level High, brightness & contrast at reasonable levels) the monitor doesn't suffer from raised (greyish) blacks, and there's only a slight amount of black crush at the tail end of the spectrum. The highlights are great, viewing angle is nice, no obvious issues with screen uniformity, motion, etc. The only minor issue I have with the screen is the finish - it's a semi-gloss/matte combo that does a poor job of diffusing reflections. It is very sensitive to any kind of light shining directly on the screen. If you have a dark office, no issues, but if you're right next to a window the light can be very distracting. Luckily the monitor gets VERY bright, so you can adjust as needed to drown out most of the glare. For the price, the monitor really exceeds my expectations. I use it mostly for work (coding/office/etc., lots of small text) and it's looks fantastic even with 150% scaling enabled. I haven't tried it out for any gaming (planning to hook old XBox One X up to it at some point), but if the 4k videos I've watch on it are any indication, it should look great! 5 |

Started using this to up the quality of photos for wedding clients and they are amazing. Dark blacks and deep colors, creating a classy 3D effect. No brand on the back so it looks more professional. Highly recommend for home projects or business. 5 |

(This review was collected as part of a promotion.) I was thinking of getting myself an Ultra wide gaming monitor but always thought the 49" G9 was too big that's when Samsung released this with the same panel as in the Alienware OLED monitor that is getting rave reviews. The difference between this and the Alienware monitor is that this one comes with Samsung OS and is easy to connect to my other Samsung ecosystem products. This monitor is perfect to run Dex on or even can be used as a TV. The OLED panel is brilliant and the movies and games pop on it. 5 |

This arm is amazing! I purchased two different ones before this to support my new Alienware OLED monitor. Those arms could not support the weight even on the highest tension. This arm at half tension easily supports the weight. You can tell this one is made with a higher quality than any off brand product. 5 |

Comparing this to the Alienware AW3225QF (which I tested for 3 weeks before getting this monitor), I find the colors are effectively the same after you find the right settings that appeal to you. I initially had some text clarity issues, but this was solved by running the monitor at 240Hz. For whatever reason, a bunch of features are turned off by default, so you need to turn them on (e.g. OLEDcare, VRR, CEC). Another thing to keep in mind - when you switch to full-screen and back, the monitor will black out for a few seconds. This is normal and a function of Nvidia drivers, not the monitor. Another caveat, as this is OLED, you cannot calibrate this with standard monitor calibration gear (think SpyderX). After turning everything on and playing with all the presets, I was able to find the ones I liked for different media. The monitor is amazing. Great color, perfect blacks, I almost think it's blacker than my black monitor bezels... 240Hz is buttery. 5 |

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] 34” G5 Odyssey Gaming Monitor replaced my Alienware 29 inch monitor, and I'm so glad that I did. The 34" G5 Odyssey has Deeper blacks and crisper picture than my old Alienware 25 gaming monitor. My games have never looked so good as on the 34"G5. 5 |
