Blink Outdoor Camera Rtsp

I bought this to use on my Blink security camera base unit. It is a perfect fit for my needs.

I bought this after my full-frame Sony went on the blink. Grandkids were coming and I needed a camera fast but, thinking my 'good' camera could be repaired, decided I didn't want to spend a lot of money on an interim replacement. After a couple of weeks of shooting I've come to love it. It's light, fast, colors are true and the dynamic range is very good for a camera at this price point. I've paired it with a Sigma 56mm 1.4 Art Lens and a Tamron 15-200mm zoom and am getting great photos.

PROS: While I have not used the RTSP features the SDI - SDI performance has been amazing low latency. Truly a frame or two. The build quality is excellent. By and large the device just works. CONS: The user interface is limited and awkward if you want to go play with settings. Boot up times are long (I am guessing there is a full linux based OS hiding in there somewhere.) If left on for a long time (weeks) strange behavior creeps in that a reset fixes.

Had an issue with the audio getting distorted when using the RTSP server. Opened a ticket and Ken from Magewell quickly provided a new version of firmware that resolved the issue. The video this encoder provides at H.264 8Mbps is better than what I get with an el-cheapo encoder that bought from Amazon at 16Mbps.

Clear image, local storage, remote access, supports RTSP streaming, no recurring extortion fees, works with my existing mechanical chime. I now own 2 video doorbells and 2 interior cams.

Bought this to provide better video stream than my JVC GY LS300's RTSP feed (it has a big delay and sketchy feed). This is magnificent uncompressed quality. Already have a NewTek connect Spark, but this makes production a breeze. Been using it with a Church client's live stream and convinced them to go with Bird Dog products. They're not gonna regret it.

It is perfect for my outdoor activities with my camera.

I'll update this review if anything changes, but right now, this unit loads everything up in the blink of an eye.
