I bought this after my full-frame Sony went on the blink. Grandkids were coming and I needed a camera fast but, thinking my 'good' camera could be repaired, decided I didn't want to spend a lot of money on an interim replacement. After a couple of weeks of shooting I've come to love it. It's light, fast, colors are true and the dynamic range is very good for a camera at this price point. I've paired it with a Sigma 56mm 1.4 Art Lens and a Tamron 15-200mm zoom and am getting great photos.

I am quite new to the Fuji XT-2 camera and its stunning lenses. I wanted a mid-range telephoto lens, but based on my experience with full-frame cameras, I didn't think I would use Fuji's 200mm equivalent, available by way of its 50-140mm f/2.8 lens, all that often. After reading many, many reviews I decided that the Fuji XF 90mm f/2 R LM WR lens would an excellent choice. It has reach, but when mounted to the XT-2, is still light enough to easily hand hold. That is a large consideration for me. Like so many of you, I have lugged full-frame cameras and heavy f/2.8 glass to the point that I found that photography just wasn't as much fun anymore. It was a big leap to go mirrorless. How could the images possibly rival those of my serious cameras? I was in for a surprise! I took my XT-2 with the 90mm lens to the North Carolina Zoo twice last week. I took portraits of giraffes, exotic birds, sea otters, zebras. The clarity of this lens is breathtaking. The detail in the fine feathers of a Barred Owl is incredible. The expression of an ostrich reminded me of a wizened old man. The eyes of a giraffe as I stood literally face-to-face with him are captured as luminescent dark pools. A grizzly bear stares back at me while she is being groomed. This lens inspires me to be more experimental with my image making. I feel such joy in seeing these beautiful creatures as I view them on screen, and recollecting the experience of being in their presence. This is what it is all about. When editing in Lightroom, I have found that I can crop an image to a very small percentage of the whole, and still have a crisp result. Those zebra stripes are very sharp indeed. This lens is fast to focus. I found that I was working in the range of f/2.8 to f/5.6. In a dark exhibit hall, I shot at ISO 8000 at f/2.8 and 1/125 sec to capture the owl standing on a branch, his feathers and eyes in perfect focus. The 90mm is a joy to use. I am very grateful. Thank you Fuji and B&H.
