Blue Heron School Supply List

Purchased this item along with a macro lens. However, waiting for momma Blue Heron to fly back to nest to fed youngin', I found this to help my back while telephoto lens was on camera/tripod. Focused and stepped back with release in hand. Also works wonderful with macro and slow shutter speeds - reason it was purchased.

Out to the refuge for some amazing closeups on Blue Heron & Igret's. Images not down loaded. But here is one from the 1.4X Sigma.

This thing is awesome! Does everything I need it to do. One thing to be aware of - it DOES come with a power supply, even though it's not listed in the What's In The Box list.

I didn't know what these were for when I bought it, I just bought what was on my class supply list. I think it was a little pricy, but it works great and I do like having different colored sides.

Filters give us what nature sometimes or cannot supply. The graduated Mauve filter enhances the color of blue skies and gives it a much richer shade of blue. This filter also provides some neutral density so that your clouds are more pronounced. I have used this filter several times now on partly cloudy days to dramatize the blue parts of the sky against the clouds. If you are getting into filters, this one is a good one to have.

My daughters bought the Hero8 for me (when the 8 was new to the market). I used it to experiment with Live Music Recordings. The sound and pictures recorded were and continue to be AWESOME! I have purchased the 9, 12, and MAX cams. ALL cameras record excellent sound and live video without any of the mods offered. The best mod has been the FLEX mod. These cameras are perfect for live concerts, drum cams, and guitar cams when attached to stocks. I use the chest mount hardware to record live drum shots. Everyone LOVES these shots specifically. But now I'm playing with the MAX, and AGAIN, the MAX records Incredible video and audio. The only problem is the batteries. I've lost 5-6 batteries due to the following problem: When plugged into a power source with the cameras powered on and recording, the older blue-top batteries swell so big that you have to use needle nose pliers to remove the battery, at which time the tops of the batteries separate from the batteries. This is with the 9, 12, and MAX plugged into a power supply (older blue-top batteries must be in the camera) so the camera records a full 2-hour set otherwise the batteries will go dead! I now only use the new enduro batteries and do not use an external power supply to record. All cameras are in GREAT condition, the blue-top battery swelling did NOT affect the functionality of the camera. It only destroyed my blue-top batteries! With the older Hero8, you do NOT need the battery in the camera to record while the camera is plugged into an external power supply! Go figure... Old things, just like many cars are built better. It would be nice for the 9, 12, and MAX to be able to be plugged in to an external power supply withOUT the batteries so recording could go longer than the batteries.

I looked around for a good microphone to have under $200 and I came across the Blue Yeti. Mainly going to be using it in the fall for school, but I have tested it already with recordings in audio, video, and calls from my computer. So far I have been pleased with the sound I get from the Blue Yeti, I think the cost is worth it for the things I've used it for and am going to use it for.

I bought the sx740 for my handicapped son who is recovering from a spinal cord injury. After giving him a few pointers I went with him on his first outing, Having a sx720 I hoped to help him if he got stuck. Well he had an inexpensive $15 tripod so how will he do this? We stopped at a nature center area with a pond and without asking he set up his tripod (having a harder time holding and steadying his camera handheld). The tilt screen really helped. He set the camera on P and center af then set the timer for 2 seconds for each shot. There was a blue heron snap snap snap and then a green heron 75 yards to the right and closer snap snap snap. Using full zoom how were these pictures going to turn out. We then went around to the pond on the other side of the nature center and low and behold a double crested cormorant. He again set up his tripod in seconds snap snap snap. A couple of days later there where 9 total pictures of all the birds we saw perfectly exposed and sharp downloaded with his computer to his favorite nature website. You say you don't believe in miracles.

I have a Wimberley adaptor for my ball heads, but when I ordered a new tripod I got this for it. Just used it to video a heron stalking fish in a waterfall and it was smooth as could be.

This lens is extremely robust, and the form and function are well thought out. The images are crisp but not perfect, and the 10X zoom makes it very, very convenient for my amateur hiking landscape/wildlife shooting. The other reviews are right, it is VERY heavy, so a dedicated support system or strap, as well as a monopole are warranted if you're carrying it any distance at all. I have found it works better than I expected in low light, and the focus and OS are fast and accurate. It is also GIANT, so plan on reassessing your storage / transport situation--my lens purchase was quickly followed by a new backpack purchase and a new heavy duty strap purchase. But it was well worth it, I can roam the woods taking flower pictures and heron pictures without swapping lenses--I really can get away with only this lens on our adventures. Overall I could not be happier given the price point--it is ideal for my hobby needs and I only had to sell one guitar to get it LOL. Note that the attached photos are compressed JPGs, but they give a good idea of the bokeh and feel of the images. The heron pictures were just after dawn in low light, this lens did a great job.
