Brass Instrument Smaller Than A Trumpet

I bought this mic to do Zoom music teaching. It works well for speaking and an acoustic instrument (trumpet.) My students noticed a marked improvement in sound over the internal MacBook pro mic, and the price is right. Plug and play was seamless, and it does everything as advertised. No nonsense, inexpensive and good quality in both build and functionality. 5 stars.

I use this for live recordings of trumpet, trumpet ensembles and brass groups. Ive used it in both live halls and in my home studio. Ribbon is the way to go for horns (and vocals of course). Very warm and complimentary to trumpets and deals very well with high SPLs. I use it with a Zoom H4-N and an M-Audio Audio Buddy. A preamp for some added gain is def needed as well as a GOOD mic cable. Tilt the mic back (or forward depending on acoustic environment) about 30 degs or so at about 8 feet back and 8 feet up in a nice hall or church. You will NOT be disappointed. Ordering a second one soon.

Need I say any more? It works!! Excellent reproduction of Brass Instrument Sounds! How can this be possible at sub $100??

This mic will pretty much blow your mind with how clean it records. The brass instrument clip isn't that great. It wouldn't stay secured on the trumpet I mounted it on. Plus, certain mutes will prevent it from mounting entirely. I'm sure the clip is very instrument dependent, so plan for backup mounting options. When in doubt, gaff tape.

I have a Sunpak and a Hoya filter (each in smaller sizes), and even the Hoya feels less substantial than the B+W. I suppose the brass really does make a difference. It threads on very smoothly, and stays put even with incidental torque that would have otherwise loosened an aluminum ring. An added bonus is that the stock Canon lens cap fits snug with almost no play in the grip. Optics-wise, it's clear to the eye, so I can't complain.
