Brother Printer Installation Without Cd

Nothing but greatness. Very pleased. I have a Brother HL5040, plain old printer, which is doing OK, but man o' man, I am so glad I got with the times. By the way, I quite enjoy thoroughly researching the things I buy. I installed the software on three machines. The software smoothly updates the firmware. Now, I did download the latest version instead of using the CD. The CD is marked which version it is. It could be the latest version, of course. You tell the install that you're using a CD, if it asks. Another thing is not to have other things running during the installation. I am always very good about that, except that I wasn't. I inexplicably allowed a lot of browser tabs to run during one of the installations. The installation worked, but there were three new printers showing instead of one. So, I used the uninstall found in the installed Brother Utilities, restarted, waited for the disk activity light to go dark and stay off (all my computers must have that indicator), ran CCleaner's Registry cleaner, powered off/on, waited, did the install, and it's all fine.

I will have to say this Epson printer is my new favorite. I currently own a Brother laser printer and while it's speedy, it doesn't have all the features this Epson printer does! For one, it lacks the wireless printing capabilities. It also doesn't have a scanner! One thing I had always wanted is to be able to print documents straight from my phone. And now I can! AND I don't even have to be nearby to do so. I was worried I wouldn't be able to utilize it with my iPhone without AirPrint but I was wrong. Setting up was easier than expected! I popped in the CD, and followed all the instructions which were super easy. I love that it gives the option to print out a test page. I have a Windows desktop and I also have a MacBook Air. I love that the instructions also made a note on how to download the software for those that lack CD drives. I will have to say it took less than 10 mins to install in both computers to printing out the test page. It was just that quick! The quality of the prints and scans are clear and easy to read. The ink is a deep color and it dries very quickly. I haven't noticed any smudging or fuzziness. I will happily choose to use this Epson printer over my Brother printer over and over. One thing I do like but others may not is that the printer makes a little bit of a loud sound while it's printing. I can hear it from across the room. But I love it! It assures me that my documents have printed when I want them to. A con I will mention is that I wish the opening to grab the papers was facing the same way as the small screen. It feels awkward pulling the sheets in the opposite direction. This is a review for the Epson EcoTank M-2170 Monochrome All-in-One Supertank Printer that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review.

Impressed and satisfied with the quality of this printer and prints. Certainly, a bargain at the price point. Coming from owning a Canon Wide Format 24" printer for over a decade it does more than an adequate job. It does not have all the bells and whistles but delivers high quality prints. The versatility / controls for this printer depends on the software program from which you print. Important Note: The printer is shipped with a CD / DVD with installation software etc. whose version is 2013. My Win 10 desk computer does not have a CD / DVD reader. I am not a computer savvy guy so I struggled trying to download the latest software drivers etc. from Canon's web site and installing them, without success. Eventually I decided to see if the computer recognized the printer via the USB connection. Control Panel Hardware & Sound View Devices & Printers. Double clicking on the iP8720 icon immediately went to the internet and brought up the latest software and allowed l me to make the installation, fantastic. Really appreciate B&H's fast delivery!!

Brother printer needs to use brother ink. I bought another brand ink that did not work.
