Building A Pfsense Router

Currently using it for subnetting muy LAN using VLANs. It has worked without issues together with my pfSense router/firewall. Good buy.

I needed internet access in an old building next to my house. It is too far away from my house to be supported by my wireless router. However, it does share electrical wiring with my house. Running new Cat5 cables was not a good solutions for a variety of reasons so I decided to try TP-Link's AV100 Gigabit Powerline Starter kit. The setup was very easy, basically plug and play. The price was very affordable. While not as fast as a direct connection, it still meets my needs.

I live in a building across a large driveway parking lot from my garage/shop and this is the first mesh router that has given me consistently high speeds in both buildings. it was a breeze to setup and has been happily humming away ever since I turned it on. I love that I can see and control what is connected to the network and keep track of my data rates and how much I send and receive each month.

Purchased to create a pfSense firewall with Protectli. Priced well and fast delivery ... what more do you need?

It has been running pfsense for over a year without any issues. Paired with 8BG of Crucial memory and an SSD disk is powerful enough to run three INLINE interfaces of Snort and also pfBlockerNG.

Bought this to replace a NIC in my pfSense box. Plugged it in, recognized immediately, been working great for a few weeks now.

Great little box for a firewall appliance. I have been running pfSense on mine without hiccups. Installation was trouble free and, so far, it’s been powerful enough to run Suricata and pfBlockerNG. CPU temp stays between 45 and 47 F. A bit noisy at startup, but silent during operation. Also tested Sophos UTM and it was fine with it. Highly recommend.

I replaced a single NIC in an older Dell Optiplex that I use to run pfSense. It was recognized immediately and drivers were already present. Adopted immediately and after assigning the proper interface designations, it was up and running. I purchased this through B&H because I trust them to make sure it's actually in Intel card. While attempting this project, I have learned the hard way, that you get what you pay for. Trust B&H !!

This works with pfSense v 2.6.0 and solved all of my issues. I was using a 10GB fiber card, which I thought was working fine until my ISP raised my upload speed. I was getting 1.4 Gbps down and 35 Mbps up, but was increased to 1.4 Gbps down and 240 Mbps up. The issue had to do with data coming in to PfSense from my 10GB switch and queuing; I never had an issue getting all of my download speed, and I was getting all of my 35 Mbps up. After the upgrade, my upload speed didn't increase, and actually went down a bit. Research led me to getting a 2.5 Gbps card for my pfSense router, and this card indeed solved by issue. Didn't need to do anything with drivers as of pfSense 2.6+, though as I understand it, drivers for the intel i225 chipset are an issue prior to 2.6.0. I have my WAN port connected to my Xfinity XB8 modem on the sole 2.5Gb port. The LAN interface is connected to my Mikrotik CRS-305 10Gb switch. Finding the right transceiver was an issue. The first 2 transceivers, one being a 10Gb RJ45 and the other being a 2.5Gb RJ45, did not work. I ultimately had success with the MikroTik S+RJ10 transceiver, which auto-negotiated at 2.5Gb immediately when connected to this Qnap card. Hopefully if anyone else is looking to do a similar setup with a Mikrotik switch to get a 10Gb LAN with a lesser multi-gig ISP, my review is helpful.

I have been using Uniquiti since 2016 and they have come a long way since the USG3 and the gen1 clould key. I did switch to pfsense a couple of years ago because of the robust firewall. I decided to give the UDM a try as I kept hearing good things about the improvements. I hated the new UI and always used the legacy when making changes. The refined UI is so much better now. Setting up my vlans, networks, WiFi, Wireguard server and firewall rules was a breeze and I didn’t need to switch the legacy UI. The UDM is closing the gap with pfsense.
