Buzzing Sound Studio Monitor

I wanted a better quality of sound and I found it in the 306p MK2 studio monitor

Had a heck of a time chasing down a buzzing sound when connection my powered studio monitors to my MacBook Pro. It ended up being a ground loop due to unbalanced connection since I was running 1/8” stereo plug to y cable 1/4” to XLR to each monitor. Connected this back and it just worked - no drivers, no white noise, no ground loop, just crystal clear audio in my monitors.

I use this with my M-Audio speakers and my Garrard At60 turntable. It works well for the price. Of course you can spend a lot of money on pre amps with amazing sound quality. But if you want one that is cheap and will give you great sound quality, this is for you. If you notice that there is a loud buzzing noise, this is NOT from the pre amp!!! It means you have not grounded your turntable. Your turntable should come with a cord that has a little metal bit on the end, and since this pre amp has no place to put a grounding cord, you simply un-screw one of the screws on the side a bit, place the end under, and screw back it. Voila! No buzzing!

I needed a monitor controller for my studio for two pairs of speakers and a couple of inputs. As much as some of the functionality of active monitor controllers appeals to me, the sound quality is first and foremost. And we all know that unless you spend $3k - $10k most active systems severely color your sound - a little more than my current budget. I wasn't sure what to expect with this affordable passive controller however, after spending a few weeks with it I can say without a doubt that it is a great addition to my studio. I hear no coloration or change to the stereo sound field. The Mute, Dim, and Mono sum functions are really handy. And the build quality feels good under your hand. My only complaint is that it would be nice if the knob travel was detented for repeatable levels. Two Big Thumbs Up!

If you need a passive near field studio monitor a little like Yamaha NS10s but with a nicer sound these are your babies! They have low distortion and a really nice high end and not harsh but also retain a very workable low end which makes mixing a breeze. I use them everyday as a mixer in Los Angeles.

These monitor speakers, although pricy, are very well suited to mixing and editing in protools for a studio either at home or in a formal studio setting. They are transparent with a very flat sound that does not emphasize any particular aspect of the frequency spectrum. Flat sound as used here is a good thing. The bass is surprisingly strong in my editing room which only about 8' x 10'. I did add a subwoofer for frequencies below 50Hz. The highs are exceptionally clear and the midrange very smooth. These speakers are very easy on the ears even after several hours editing. I highly recommend them. I use them mainly to edit recording of live theatrical musical performances.
