Cable Firewire 800 Thunderbolt 3

I have had mine several months and am pleased with it. It does not support Thunderbolt 2 or Firewire 400/800. It does get quite warm during use.

This adapter combined with Apple FireWire to Thunderbolt , and FireWire 800 to 400 adapter for using old FireWire device with M1 MacBook Pro. Works great.

After running Lightroom and Photoshop on a MacBook Pro for about 5 years, I finally broke down and bought the Mac Pro. I did not realize how much time I had been wasting, twiddling my thumbs while the old MacBook churned away processing images. The Mac Pro is very fast and quiet and has a nice assortment of ports. After purchasing a Thunderbolt to Firewire adapter, I was able to quickly mount two daisy chained external Firewire drives along with a USB3 drive and a new Thunderbolt backup drive. It is also nice to have the 1TB internal flash drive for software and temporary storage. It took me a while to figure out that I needed a new, Thunderbolt to Display Port cable to connect the Mac Pro to my 27 inch NEC monitor. Once I got the NEC cable and a keyboard, I was quickly up and running with a monitor resolution of 2560 x 1440 (no adaptor required). Although the Mac Pro does not have an optical drive, I learned that it can share the drive on my MacBook Pro using WiFi or an ethernet cable. I was able to use this approach to install some software that I have on CDs. Overall, I am very happy with the Mac Pro. It may be the last computer that I ever buy.

With this adaptor I connected a Thunderbolt to Firewire adaptor and the daisy chain worked fine... so far. I do have other gear, with Firewire connectivity, that I have yet to test but will.

I bought this drive to be able to shoot RAW images and be able to edit them on the go without having to worry about running low on internal hard drive space it was an necessary upgrade. The G-Raid mini helped me with both of these issues. Not only did it give me more space but thanks to the RAID it also performed far better than any of my firewire 800 external hard drives. The best aspect of the drive is that its firewire 800 powered, but unlike many other firewire 800 powered drives on the market, this drive has a second firewire 800 for daisy-chaining. Having this option has allowed me to hook up my firewire 800 CF card reader and be able to work efficiently on tight deadlines.. The protective pouch is a nice complimentary bonus to keep the drive in super good shape. The eSATA is a nice, but I haven't been able to use it with my Macbook Pro 17 since my Griffin eSATA expresscard doesn't respond to it. The only downfall to this product is that in order to switch from RAID0 to RAID1, the drive has to be completely formatted, and there is no notice included with the product that mentions the drive needs to be formatted. Overall its a wonderful product, and I'm convinced that if I need more space in the future I will be purchasing more of these.

Excellent device. Pretty, small, fast (using it via Firewire 800), quiet and safe (RAID redundancy). Using it for my Aperture library and it works really well. Built for continuous use (built in fan, also very quiet).

Using the enclosure for external drive on MacBook Pro 13 unibody. Wanted the Firewire 800 speed for an external bootable drive. Found it best to follow instructions of NOT screwing the hard drive down to the heat sink(even though there were enough screws in the package to do so). As it turned out two of the drives I was using were bad so it was easy to just open the end-cap and slide the I/O board with hard drive out to replace then slide it back in. The two end-caps (one permanent the other has screws to hold it in place) hold parts inside fairly well with a 2.5 5400 rpm SATA hard drive. This case is not intended to be water-proof, shock-proof or dust-proof etc. Just an enclosure for an external hard drive best used laying flat and still. Happy with the fact that package includes USB 2 to USB 3 cable as well as Firewire 800 cable. device is capable of daisy-chaining Fireire 800 devices since it has two ports. Included is a pleather carrying case. Has a tiny on-off switch. Case is see-through clear plastic with reasonably thick construction. The blue LED when turned on is a good visual cue not to shake or move the enclosure as the hard-drive is on and spinning. Careful not to tighten side screws to hold the end-cap in place is they may strip or crack the plastic piece.

This 2 bay enclosure is used to backup drives from a 4 bay MacPro. It is configured to JBOD using a Firewire 800 connection. It's simple to use and backs up my MacPro drives using CCC (Carbon Copy Cloner) in a short time frame. Swapping out drives is a snap. Backups can be scheduled at night for a daily auto backup of my boot drive. This is a great product - especially if you already have the drives and only need the enclosure.

I bought a new iMac and rather than chaining multiple adapters to go from Thunderbolt 3 to FireWire 800 to continue using some older peripherals, I bought two of these cables for FW800 drives that had eSATA ports on the back. They were very easy to connect and everything mounted perfectly. I ran a drive speed test utility and found that the two drives continued to run at about 80/120 MB/s write/read, about FireWire 800 speeds, although Id hoped theyd run closer to 200-300 MB/s. Whether it was plugged into the computer or a hub, the speed was the same. Its possible Im doing something wrong or more likely Im just misunderstanding how these things work, but the bottom line is that these cables do work as advertised, even on drives that are about 7 years old, and at an affordable price.
