Cable Matters C Dock Ethernet Driver

The assembly was easy, and the driver installation was easy, and the ethernet cable connection was easy, and paper roll loading was easy, and then the plotting worked well. Only glitch was the driver software creating two printers, and no documentation on which was which (one was ethernet and one was USB). 5 |

Solidly made. Works. It's a cable. What else matters? 5 |

Not much to say about an ethernet cable, except that it works. 5 |

Since this device is so new, the device driver for Wi-Fi and Ethernet is not in the installation software for the operating system. You must connect an external USB Wi-Fi so that it can download the device driver from the internet. Other than this hiccup, everything works fine. I bought three. 5 |

This adapter works well with Linux, but will require the user to compile the open source driver and install it. Careful instructions are on the web. I use it on a workstation normally attached to ethernet, but occasionally in need of wireless access. Quick speed test on a strong signal was about 250Mbps (650Mbps on ethernet). 5 |

Got this to connect my XPS 13 from 2016/2017 to my 27" thunderbolt Apple monitor. It worked straight out of the box. However I have a Dell TB16 dock as well. Tried using that as well. So the dock's usb-c connector goes into the XPS, and the Startech adapter goes from the dock to the Thunderbolt monitor. That didn't work: I needed to update the BIOS, Thunderbolt firmware, thunderbolt driver, and installed I believe the latest thunderbolt application from the Intel website. Everything works now, even the audio and usb ports on the monitor. (facetime camera doesn't work, since it can't find a driver). All in all good buy, but I can't connect my 2019 macbook Pro to my thunderbolt monitor with the startech adapter. Monitor does not activate. Seems to only work with Windows machines. 5 |

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I often unplug my laptop from my desk. I have a couple USB ports, a HDMI , Power, wired USB mouse and USB printer, that I utilize on my laptop. Each time I want to move my laptop to another area of my home, I have to unplug everything. At some point I fear that the ports will wear out as I do this often. I got this Thunderbird 4 Dock so I could plug each of my devices into it and only have to unplug 2 cables. My power and Lightning cable. My laptop doesn't charge via the USB C port. But that is ok. My laptop is also only wifi. No ethernet built in. I took all the devices that I plug into my laptop and plug them into my dock. I even plug in the ethernet from my wall. Everything works great! All devices were recognized. There is no lag or noticeable issues when I have all the devices running. The dock is very cool looking too. I have used docks where I push my laptop down on it. I never was a fan of those. I enjoy using the USB C connector. So much more simple. My router is across the house. So my internet has been flaky. Now that I use the ethernet in the dock, it is much more stable and much faster. I am a licensed Amateur Radio Operator (ham). I feared that this device would cause interference. I ran some tests with it and there is zero interference from this device. I am very pleased with this dock. 5 |
